Keepin It Real

Here are two very serious renovation/gut jobs going on along 13th Street. You probably can’t even tell they are happening from the front because they have kept the facades completely in tact. I think that is very cool. Are they forced to do so by the city or is it cheaper this way or do they just want to maintain historical integrity? Whatever the reason I’m glad they are doing it.

  • AFAIK, its not a historic district and therefore they are not required to keep the fascades. They probably figured, and probably correctly, that they will get a higher return in the end by preserving the old facades that people love.

  • this and the fire escape picture look really familar – where are they located?

I’m usually drunk when I take these pictures but the keeping it real photo I think is behind 13th St. and the fire escape in on Florida or near Florida I can’t remember where exactly. I could walk there though. Maybe I’ll arrange a PoP walking tour one of these days…
