Feels like we’ve been talking a ton about yoga lately – well here’s one more.  Shaw Yoga is now open above Lost & Found on 9th Street by the Convention Center.

“Namaste Shaw! We are thrilled to open the doors of our light-filled studio to the Shaw and greater DC Community. Yoga means union: of body and mind, of individuals, of intention and action. Shaw Yoga sits at a crossroads in DC. Walk out of the studio and look left, and you see the houses and smaller businesses of Uptown. Look right, and the bustle of Downtown greets you. Across the street sits the Convention Center. To this urban union point, we bring the uniting opportunity of yoga. Come relax, breathe, stretch, sweat, strengthen, and grow with us.”

2032 P Street, NW

More big yoga news this week. Back in Oct. 2013 we learned that Cafe Japone had closed at 2032 P Street, NW. Next up – Unity Woods Dupont Yoga (these signs were taped to the doors):

Update: thanks to MPinDC for clarifying, “it is a new yoga studio (Dupont Yoga) that will be offering space to a Unity Woods teacher on Saturday mornings.”

Unity Woods’ website says:

“Yoga at Unity Woods is not trendy, but timeless. You may have tried yoga in gyms or in videos. When you are ready for the best in authentic yoga instruction, come try the classes at our three Washington-area locations.

Unity Woods is one of the best known and most widely respected yoga centers in the country. We offer classes for students at all levels in asana (posture) and pranayama (breathing), special courses for targeted needs and interests, workshops with some of the world’s finest teachers, and programs covering various aspects of the science and art of yoga.

At Unity Woods, our purpose is to offer uncompromising, expert yoga instruction to as broad an audience as possible. Our teaching staff is the area’s most experienced, comprised of highly trained, certified instructors who help guide you to improved health, serenity and expanded awareness.

All our classes are based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar. Named by Time magazine as “one of the 100 most influential people in the world.” Mr. Iyengar is widely regarded as the 20th century’s foremost yoga teacher. His approach develops self-awareness through precision in movement and attention to the subtleties of body, breath, mind, and spirit.”

From an email:

Lighthouse Yoga Center is moving to 4203 9th Street NW in mid-April. This is the little yellow building next to the Petworth post office, just north of Upshur. The building is in great shape and it’s going to make a beautiful yoga studio! We’re just waiting for the current tenant to move out, and we plan to open at the new location on April 22. We’ll keep running classes at the current site until then, and we expect minimal disruption to our business from the move.”

From the owners:

“The goal of Yoga Heights is to make yoga accessible for ALL people and ALL budgets. In addition to typical yoga classes, we plan to have classes in Spanish and French, some donation/free classes, kids yoga, seniors yoga, and a “Karma Class” that would be a little more expensive but for each class someone buys, we’ll donate a free class to someone. (Like the Tom’s Shoes model.)”
