When we learned the Sauf Haus Bier Hall + Garten was opening above the Dupont Shake Shack this summer I didn’t realize how big the garten part would be. Though we knew it would have a summer garden with 210 seats I had a tough time conceptualizing that space. But walking by it yesterday you can see how huge it’ll be – this has the potential to be very very awesome:

Last week we learned a a new coffee shop (with cocktails) was coming to Logan Circle. They’ve now applied for a liquor license and it reveals an interesting detail – Roof deck summer garden:

“New Tavern. Pastry shop/coffee house serving small plates. Sidewalk Café and Roof deck Summer Garden. Occupancy load is 160.”

Hours will be Sunday through Saturday 7 am – 2 am.

Like many others, I love eating, drinking and just hanging out at roof top bars and outdoor patios. Obviously when we’ve been having weather like we’ve had this week, sitting outside isn’t always the most comfortable spot. But it got me wondering if there are some outdoor roof decks and/or patios that are still comfortable during the hot months? I’m particularly looking for some that are cool but you still have a view and or feel like you are outside. Know of any cool outdoor dining/drinking spots?

It is a beautiful sight and a welcome one for the coming warmer weather. I spoke to Sasha, the owner of Red Derby at 14th and Quincy, who mentioned that brunch will be offered starting next Sunday! Always nice to have another cool brunch option. I can’t remember what will be on the menu but it sounded awesome. I’ll post the menu shortly. So what’s your favorite spot for brunch?

As you can see the outdoor patio area is open for drinking! You can see how happy these folks are. I’ll admit I wept at the mere sight of a beer on the picnic table. From what I hear the permit is renewed indefinitely. Great news since we have about another month or two of good outdoor drinking weather left.
