“Dear PoP,

Hi, this morning I found a cockatiel in the north Mt. Pleasant area. Its wings appear to be clipped so I think he must be from nearby. I am currently caring for it but am hoping to return it to its owner.”

If this is your bird or you know who’s it is please email me at princeofpetworth(at)gmail and I’ll connect you with the reader.

“Dear PoPville,

I found this yorkie yesterday afternoon running around grant circle. He’s a male yorkie with a blue harness, no collar and tag, and the microchip was not registered.

They can contact me at [email protected].

I know someone misses him dearly and I want him to reunite with his owners.”

“Dear PoP,

I’m a triathlete and I just got back from my Sunday group ride around 11:45am, yesterday. I left my bike on my front porch that had bugs and road gunk on it to come back and clean it off. I thought it would be safe for the 15 mins i left it out there considering my front door was open, my neighbors front door was open and there was a neighbor across the street doing yard work. I came back 15 mins later to find my $3500 bike gone in broad daylight. The neighbor across the street said he step inside to grab lunch and did not see anything. I live on Emerson St NW between New Hampshire Ave and Kansas Ave.

It’s such a shame that you can’t trust anyone or leave anything on your front porch in mid day for 15 mins without losing what you worked so hard for!”

Oh man, so freaking frustrating. I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled as well.

Ed. Note: Unfortunately we gotta take this as a lesson learned – the OP does not need a lecture here – but for those with really expensive bikes, I’d err on the side of caution and always bring your bike inside or lock it up even for 15 minutes. It sucks that these precautions are necessary but at the moment this is the world we live in.

Back in April ’11 a reader wrote in about a beloved “Mary Poppins umbrella”. I can’t believe it – but a reader found it at the Raven over the weekend. I forwarded that message to the OP who sent the picture above and wrote:

Of course it was pouring as I walked, umbrellaless, to The Raven to track down your reader’s lead. I walked in, rain dripping from my hair, asking for my Mary Poppins umbrella. It was a check mark in the Karma column. They said everyone at The Raven had enjoyed it for a while. There were a few puppet shows… a few dances… a few intimate bartender/parrot moments. I said I was happy to have shared the joy of the Mary Poppins umbrella. Maybe someone returned it a day or two after taking it… or maybe it was there the whole time, hopping from bar stool to booth, and the few times I went back looking for it, the bartenders just didn’t really know that it was there. Regardless, I wouldn’t have gotten it back without you and your readers!

Awesome.

“Dear PoP,

My friend found a green Cole Haan wallet and a white umbrella in a cab today. The wallet belongs to a Angelica Rodriguez who lives on Capitol Hill. The wallet not only contains credit cards and cash but also important documents like a social security card and health insurance cards. Would it be possible for you to make a post to help locate the owner? You could have Angelica e-mail me the street address on her driver’s license and I could go drop it off.”

If Angelica is reading this or someone knows Angelica please have her email me at princeofpetworth(at)gmail and I’ll put her in touch with the reader.

“Dear PoP,

I have lost one of my most prized possessions and I fear that it was picked up by someone (obviously with great taste) last night. It is my Mary Poppins umbrella. Yes, you read that correctly. I was at the Raven on Friday night and left my umbrella by the bar, which may or may not have been the direct result of too many beers. I went back today to see if they still had it and sadly they do not! I would hope that whoever did take it from the Raven is just keeping it safe and warm while they look for its owner. I’ve attached pics of me and my umbrella – dressed of course as Mary Poppins at Halloween. Can you help find my umbrella and get its “borrower” in touch with me?”

Well this is def. one of the more unusual lost and found requests I’ve ever received and I can’t always get to these types of posts but it looks like rain… So if anyone happened to accidentally take this umbrella from the Raven in Mt. Pleasant on Friday night please send me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail and I’ll get you in touch with the owner.

“Dear PoP,

Just found these keys on the floor of a 42 bus heading to Mt Pleasant. We are going to turn in to metro lost and found. Can you post the pic so the owner might be able to find their keys? Thanks!”

“Dear PoP,

My purse was stolen last night while walking home at around 8pm on Park Rd between 13th and 11th, NW. Fortunately most of my valuables fell out after I and some wonderful neighbors chased the man around the block (not the smartest decision, I know, but many thanks to the kind strangers). Take this as yet another reminder to pay attention while walking. If people could keep an eye out for a black purse somewhere in the area, I have been working for several months on a blue and white baby blanket that should be in the purse. It is likely useless to the thief but the blanket is priceless to me and my friend’s newborn.”

Please email me [princeofpetworth(at)gmail] if you find the purse/blanket and I’ll put you in touch with the reader.

“Dear PoP,

Found: AT&T blackberry, belonging to “Doug.” Found the phone on the sidewalk along 11th Street between Harvard & Girard, NW at 12:30pm today. I know it’s just a phone, but for the number of times mine has either been stolen or been lost I would have appreciated somebody trying to return it.

It’s a smaller version, gunmetal color. When I found it was split open and battery was out. After replacing the battery the phone turned on and loaded…where I found out it belonged to “Doug.” It’s password protected so I can’t get to any numbers to call a friend and return the phone. If anybody knows a guy named Doug, who is missing his blackberry, let me know and I’ll get it safely back.”

If it is yours please contact [email protected]
