“Riding by the Botanic Garden, I saw this hawk a few feet away having just caught a huge rat for dinner. Then it flew up into the tree and I took a few photos. Maybe not the best shot but pretty cool as my first up close hawk sighting!”

Thanks to Randy for sending these fantastic shots:

“This was my morning’s beautiful ‘wake up call ‘ …a red-shouldered hawk vocalizing outside my window in a tall poplar tree. They are known to be quite loud and it did it’s job! (I got up and grabbed my camera!)”

hahaha thanks to my neighbor for sending this meta photo of me photographing a hawk on our street. This is from North Cleveland Park and that is my daughter’s hot pink back back but she lets me borrow it from time to time.

I’d like to take the opportunity to announce the formation of the Friends of the White Whale Society (FOTWWS). It took a while navigating the nonprofit bureaucracy but we are now official. Basically we take a lot of photos of white squirrels and other urban wildlife exotica. Join us!!

OK, the White Whale(s) is no stranger to the pages of PoPville but there has been an explosion of sightings this summer. I am grateful to all who sent in samples. Without further ado, I give you, not including the ones we’ve already posted this summer, the White Whale, summer 2018: (more…)
