“Dear PoPville,

My wife Jean and I want to send a big thank you to all of the people on Shepherd Street NW for PorchFest on Saturday April 29. Our 13-month old Jack had a simple febrile seizure, and gave his parents quite a panic. We want to let the community know how grateful we were for your help calling 911 and keeping us calm. And we want to especially thank Dr. Christina Baviskar for stepping in and helping us. Jack is doing great and has made a speedy recovery. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

i didn’t get to thank a very kind stranger for intervening on my behalf. i (a female) was biking by myself around 11:30 pm on friday night, headed north on 6th st in southeast. as I was approaching the intersection of 6th and penn, there was a man in the street that was shouting at cars. i stopped a good way back from the intersection so as not to interact with him as i waited for the light to turn green. unfortunately for me, he saw me and rushed towards me yelling nasty things and getting incredibly and uncomfortably close. he was blocking my bike and screaming in my face and i did not know how i was going to get away from him. “Dear PoPville,

Friday night (February 17th) my friend and I (we are both young women) were leaving the Little Grand (7th and H St. NE) a little after 11pm. We were walking home going west on H Street NE when a man standing outside of the Whole Foods yelled something at us (I didn’t hear what he said as my friend and I were in mid-conversation). The man was tall, stout, and probably in his 40s. My friend and I kept walking and we could hear him continuing to shout at us. He was saying things like, he needed to tell us something, he was the black Jesus, he knew God, and was mad we weren’t talking to him. We realized he was following us as he was shouting. He followed us to H and 4th NE when (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I am reaching out to see if you would be able to help me find a mom I met at Children’s National’s Emergency Department last weekend (12/3, around 5pm.) I came in to the ED with my 17m old, who was very very sick- she had lost the ability to use her left arm and leg, and we weren’t sure why. This mom was there with her daughter who had a hurt arm, and she literally became my daughter’s guardian angel that day. (more…)

Lots of messages were sent to us (props to all the concerned neighbors who did not give up until Bruce was rescued!) over the weekend: “Neighbors have been trying to get the construction manager or animal control – this poor cat has been stuck in the scaffolding at the Scottish Rite construction site on 15th and S NW.”

Katie wrote Sunday morning:

“The cat has been saved and owner located!”

“Dear PoPville,

Just wanted to thank whoever it was that found my phone in front of the Camden NOMA apartments and turned it into the front desk. Thanks to the Google “Find my phone” feature I was able to share my work ## with the front desk person and it is now back in my possession. So nice to skip a trip to the store and not have to worry that someone is out there stealing my identity! It’s a Christmas miracle!” (more…)
