“Here’s a tomato haul and here’s the greatest garden haul yet this summer from my garden in Crestwood. They’re Zucchettas (aka tromboncino summer squash), grown from seed on my windowsill. Northwest Courier included for scale. Second photo is when they were growing on the trellis.” (more…)

Thanks to Patti for sending:
“I was away last week and came home to this amazing haul in Petworth! Two kinds of beets (with loads of their greens), swiss chard, hungarian wax peppers, serrano peppers, japanese eggplant, and a few kinds of cherry tomatoes.
I’ve been trying, only partially successfully, to naturally manage a rat infestation in the garden boxes (thanks vacant house being flipped on the block!) before giving in to rat poison and ruining the veggies….it’s been frustrating, but this haul is some reward for the perseverance. If anyone out there in Popville has tips for keeping rats from burrowing in raised garden beds, I’d love to hear them!!”
