Support Meeting for Moms with Incarcerated Co-Parents

WeWork White House
1440 G St NW
Washington, D.C. 20009

This is a support group for mothers in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area that aims to meet monthly to discuss the unique challenges facing mothers raising their children with a co-parent in prison and a space for mothers to find solace, solutions, and support through community.

Thursday, September 20, is the first meeting. This will be a brainstorming and co-creation session where attendees discuss what the group should look like going forward and how members can best support each other – together, attendees will try to set reasonable expectations for moving forward, discuss struggles and needs, and start mapping out how to grow together.

Tia Watkins, the founder and facilitator of this support group, is raising two children with fathers in prison and saw the need for a space for mothers to support each other. She is also co-founder of Fresh Start Project DC, a workforce development organization serving discouraged workers in the DC area.
