Thanks to Peter R. for sending this monster catch from May:

“I am submitting my 35lb(and a few ounces) blue catfish for your consideration – weighed on my luggage scale(so pretty accurate?)”

You can see the previous record holder here. If you’d like to challenge the PoPville record for D.C. caught fish please send a photo in an email to [email protected] and let me know where you caught it.

Thanks to John for sending:

“Barred Owl spotted on 400 block of Q St NW — Beautifully and silently swooped over Q St, perching long enough to check me out while I fumbled with my groceries and iPhone for the pic. Then it gave a passing car a thrill by swooping just low enough for them to catch sight ahead and above their car. I heard the driver belt out a yelp when he saw it”

And City Wildlife saved a super cute one at the National Cathedral: (more…)

Thanks to Alec for sending from Tenleytown.

“I believe is broad-tailed hawk who likes to sit on the house next door in search of pigeons and doves that come to our bird-feeder.”

“Dear PoPville,

The photo of the bird with the rat is a hawk, not a falcon. It might be a red-tailed hawk. It is good they are catching the rodents. Please, remind people not to use rodenticide. It poisons the rodents and also the hawks, owls, and even eagles too. We must protect those predators or we open the world’s people to more disease.

Attached is a photo of our Peregrine Falcon, her name is Spirit. Peregrine Falcon’s are the fastest animal in the world. She lives with us at Moccasin Lake Nature Park in Clearwater, FL.”

Thanks to Oliver for sending:

“Not sure if this is a hawk or a falcon, but we could use more help with the rat problem in Shaw! Bundy field in the background.”

Thanks to Brian for sending: “this guy was posing in front of the DC War Memorial.”

Thanks to Reymar for sending:

“So I’m minding my own business walking down by CityCenter and this huge bird lands in front of me with a flurry of feathers falling around it.

This hawk? falcon? the size of a football just snatched a pigeon out of the sky for a morning snack.”
