“Dear PoPville,
This system has been set up at the corner of Florida and 13th St, NW for over two weeks (potentially over three, but time has ceased to have meaning for me) and I cannot figure out what it is for. I have yet to see any sort of workers here with it either. I’d love to know what’s being worked on or if people have any idea what it is even for! Thanks so much!”

And thanks to AL for sending the above from Georgia Ave Monday night. Somebody sent a photo to me last week on twitter and that was the first photo proof I’ve seen, I always assumed it was myth. I post here for posterity.
The booms are back. Getting reports from 7th and O. It is very likely those loud M80 type firecrackers that have been reported a lot recently. I'm not going to report them all but if you hear one loud boom or many rhythmic ones know you are not alone in hearing them.

For folks who were wondering about that huge explosion heard around 14th and U Street, NW earlier.
Update: We’re getting tons of reports of more explosions/booms from Petworth/Brightwood Park/Brightwood and elsewhere. Assuming it’s the same huge “firecrackers” but will update when/if we learn more. If you’d like to follow along we’re the reports are @PoPville on twitter.

This morning I took my dog out and noticed a couple penny’s on our front stoop. We checked the security camera from last night and it captured this person who stopped and abruptly threw penny’s onto our stoop. Were we marked by some bizarre penny cult? I’d be curious what stories Popville readers might come up with for why this happened. These are weird times.”
