“Dear PoPville,
I was walking in Kalorama this morning (Tuesday) and heard a recording of the Star Spangled Banner being played very loud. Given that the Obamas live one block away on Belmont, I’m dying to know if this had anything to do with them, or what this all about….”

Thanks to Forever Single for sending from Capitol Hill: “Can anyone explain this? I have questions.”
For more wholesome(?) barbies please head to Q Street immediately.

Ty asks Sunday: “anyone know the source of the exploding noises in NE DC? Been going on all day. Fireworks?”
This is a relatively new/not so new phenomena that has been the last few springs through August. We’ve never been able to pin down what exactly the new explosive/firework is called but rest assured it will continue to be heard throughout the District for a few more months to come.
Ed. Note: Occasionally there will be/could be a transformer blown which also causes a loud explosion but this is different.

Readers reported: “Sounded like two jets flew extremely low above houses last night around 11:45. Heard in Woodridge, NE, and apparently out into Hyattsville. It was almost unbearably loud, and I’m not particularly noise sensitive.”
“So I woke up to an extremely loud noise – and my neighborhood listserv starts popping off a few minutes later. Apparently we had two fighter jets just fly over #Hyattsville?”
“It was crazy loud in Riverdale.”
“Anyone else in DC area hear an incredibly loud/close aircraft fly by (sounded almost like a missile) just now? What was that?? (NE in Hyattsville).”
