Update from the Department of For-Hire Vehicles:

“The Department of For-Hire Vehicles, which regulates taxicabs, limos, and ride-hailing companies in the District, allows residents of Maryland and Virginia to operate in the District. One requirement is to display a taxi vehicle tag issued by the District. In the past, some taxicabs had tags issued both by the District and their home jurisdiction. That is why you may occasionally see taxicabs with two tags.”

“Dear PoPville,

It’s been a while since we’ve played coyote or dog? Coyotes have been spotted in Rock Creek Park and the colors certainly seem to match.

“The eastern coyote is a recent arrival to Rock Creek, migrating to the area around 2016. Coyotes are very adaptable and can live in semi-urban environments. They also contribute to healthy ecosystems by limiting other medium-sized predator populations, allowing greater abundance and diversity of prey species such as song birds!”

Been getting reports of burning (tires? Electrical?) smell from all over the city. Anyone know the origin?

From DC Fire and EMS: “is receiving calls for the smell of smoke in the District. At this time, there is no fire/significant incident. #DCsBravest are working to determine the source of the odor,”

From the National Weather Service: “Are you smelling smoke this afternoon? The smell may be associated with a wildfire in eastern NC. Southerly winds are bringing the smoke northward. Smoke should clear out from west to east this evening with the wind shifting to the northwest.”

From the City Administrator: “Given that residents in DC region are smelling it, it’s possibly coming from North Carolina wildfire.” (more…)
