What the Helen of Troy is This

The shells on the 600 Block of Irving Street, NW are getting fixed up. There were some wild looking ones not too long ago. The house on the right looks pretty good. But I’m totally confused by the house on the left. It is only one story and does not go back very far. What’s the deal with the one on the left?

And while we’re on the block, it looks like the “Park View” is finally fixed up.

Why does the lock stick so far out in the back?

It’s too small to be an air conditioner. Any ideas?
In Lieu of “Coming and Going” Please Accept a Carriage House and a Question I’ve Been Meaning to Ask

Typing at a computer all day and night, my neck is killing me. Last weekend I walked past Lunar Massage at 1101 5th Street, NW. They say 20 minutes for $26. Is that a good deal?

And here’s the carriage house folks have been mentioning when talking about the “pink house” at the corner of 4th (or is it 5th?) and M Streets, NW. Absolutely awesome!

This is just outside the Capitol Building. It has no windows all the way around. I’m guessing it was used to store something at some point. Any guesses?

This odd photo taken in Takoma Park is from binklesworth who succinctly titles it, “What the?”. I feel the same way. Huh…

I notice this a lot in my backyard as well, I see something new growing every Spring and I can’t remember if it was planted or is just a weed.
I’m pretty sure the one photographed above is a weed but it’s pretty wild how it’s growing out of the window sill.

Here is another from a series of “SW DC” photos by lmno.p who writes, “While taking this one, two undercover cops posted up on the corner and watched.”
So what in the Helen of Troy is this a photo of?

I couldn’t for the life of me figure this building out. It’s located at the 200 block of H Street, NW. Any guesses?
The murals make it much less of an eyesore.
