On twitter folks are reporting hearing loud noises at regular intervals from neighborhoods all over DC. @EmeryMatt has a good guess:
“I think with a low cloud ceiling, you can hear the DCA flights coming in”
@RarityInForm also guesses:
“whew that was a big one! Planes taking off low to stay under cloud/fog layer?”

The balloon is back… You can read some background on them after previous sightings here.
@morskie29 tweets us:
“#UFO over 4th&K NW.”
“Turns out it’s only a balloon for this odd sky photo thing. No aliens.”

But this is cool too. Brookland.

“Dear PoPville,
I can’t possibly be the only one wondering this…
Behind the McDonald’s (across from Walmart) on Georgia Avenue & Peabody Street NW, stands a brick apartment building on Piney Branch Road. I sometimes need a Happy Meal when I get a migraine, and I first noticed this building several years ago when I was sitting in the drive through waiting to order my medicinal nuggets. What I wanted to know is, does anyone know what the deal is with the names bricked into the building above the two entrances: “Jay Joe” and “Barry”? The building looks like it is being renovated, and I bet they will eventually cover up ol Jay Joe and Barry forever. I think they are such odd names for building entrances.”

Spotted this in Shaw.

7th and P Street, NW
“Dear PoPville,
Any idea what’s going on at the Kennedy rec center in shaw? Huge spotlights set up. Definitely aren’t the dcpd crime deterrent ones either.”

“Dear PoPville,
Today I noticed some odd piles of a yellow powder around the area of 17th NW between Corcoran and S (see photo above of one of the piles). I have no idea what it could be, especially because the piles seemed randomly placed throughout the sidewalk, were dry, and seemed to serve no purpose. I think we saw around 7+ piles. It didn’t seem to have an odor and my dog was unusually interested in it. Am I just clueless to this being a completely normal thing that serves a very normal purpose? I just want someone to solve this powder puzzle for me.”

“Dear PoPville,
Maybe you can help identify this monster sitting over by RFK….it used to be two chunks but now its been welded into one behemoth.
My money is on Death Star.”

“Dear PoPville,
Curious if anyone knows anything about a Parachute Landing by the Capitol last evening around sunset. It was a little alarming, so I’m not sure if it was part of the emergency drills yesterday?”
Hmm I’m guessing it was part of the imaging/mapping balloons spotted all over town?
