Last night we received a number of reports about Comcast/Xfinity outages (service appears to be restored for many though some are still experiencing slowness as of this morning.) Doesn’t seem related bu thanks to Nat for sending this interesting tidbit: “I got an email from my apartment about RCN possibly experiencing “sun outages” between Feb 27 and March 8. I wonder if that’s what’s happening to Comcast?”

From RCN:

“Dear PoPville,

I live up in Brightwood Park and last week we had DC Water come dig up and repair a major water main under the street right in front of our house. Since then, both my house and my neighbor’s house has experienced significant internal cracking on our interior front walls and shared rowhouse wall. Any community advice about how to best navigate this?

“Dear PoPville,

I had a question for the community about gas bills. We got our gas bill this month (for January) and it’s higher than anything I’ve ever received – $130.

We just moved into this house on the Hill last summer from a condo, and it’s about 150 years old, so I know it probably won’t keep heat as well as other new places, but just wanted to check to see if this is normal for a 1300sf house (2 stories). This seems high to me, though.”

From WMATA:

“Transit riders and visitors to the nation’s capital now enjoy one of the most connected wireless experiences of any rail system in the U.S. with coverage available in all tunnels. The nation’s major wireless carriers–AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon –and Metro today officially announced the final milestone, more than a decade in the making, to provide wireless service for those who use the Metrorail system. With Metro’s 100-mile tunnel network now connected to each wireless carrier’s network, customers can communicate or stream content throughout their journey from the street to the station and in the train. “Dear PoPville,

I live in Capitol Hill between Eastern Market and Union Station and starting Wednesday night my cell signal only has one bar, at best. I can pick up a call, hear the other person, but they never hear me, and then call eventually drops. This is the case on both my personal and work phones, one AT&T and one Verizon. Both companies saying “no outages or issues reported.”

I’ve noticed new towers installed by the Capitol– I’m assuming that’s the cause? Is anyone else experiencing this? Should we assume this will be the case for the next week?”

“Dear PoPville,

All of the telephone poles on Reno Road from Nebraska south to about Van Ness have these yellow grids. I’ve only seen them in daylight, but they don’t seem to be reflective. Do they mean “I am a telephone pole: don’t hit me with your car”?”
