“Dear PoP,

I was one of the victims of the mugging at 11th and Monroe on April 27. Relating to the investigation into our mugging, Detective Weston of the MPD asks that we put the word out to see if there is anyone else in the area that has been robbed by muggers with the same M.O.: two African-American males, one with a gun, and particularly one approaching from the front and one from the back. He’s after any information that may link these guys to other muggings.

You can email Detective Weston at [email protected]

“Dear PoP,

I’m a triathlete and I just got back from my Sunday group ride around 11:45am, yesterday. I left my bike on my front porch that had bugs and road gunk on it to come back and clean it off. I thought it would be safe for the 15 mins i left it out there considering my front door was open, my neighbors front door was open and there was a neighbor across the street doing yard work. I came back 15 mins later to find my $3500 bike gone in broad daylight. The neighbor across the street said he step inside to grab lunch and did not see anything. I live on Emerson St NW between New Hampshire Ave and Kansas Ave.

It’s such a shame that you can’t trust anyone or leave anything on your front porch in mid day for 15 mins without losing what you worked so hard for!”

Oh man, so freaking frustrating. I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled as well.

Ed. Note: Unfortunately we gotta take this as a lesson learned – the OP does not need a lecture here – but for those with really expensive bikes, I’d err on the side of caution and always bring your bike inside or lock it up even for 15 minutes. It sucks that these precautions are necessary but at the moment this is the world we live in.

Locking your door can help prevent home burglaries.

From MPD:

In the burglary that occurred in the 500 Blk of 4th St SE, the suspect (s) entered the house through an unlocked back door.

Burglary Prevention Tips are below. I hope this will help to prevent further burglaries. The main thing is, get to know your neighbors and watch out for each other.

1. Please ensure doors are locked at all times.

But in all seriousness – do you guys think you should lock your doors even when you are home?

“Dear PoP,

About three weeks ago, my friend was at a party at the French Embassy, a “techno” party or something, with a few people he was acquaintances with but didn’t know very well. He went outside to smoke a cigarette, came back in, was dancing around/enjoying himself and doesn’t remember much past that. The girls he was with took him home because he was “too drunk,” even though he had only had one or two, and he didn’t wake up until about 3pm the next day. He was in a lot of pain, so went to the hospital… turns out he broke his collar bone. Remembers nothing.

Fast forward to last night, my coworker/friend is at a bar near where we work, in Judiciary Square, having a few glasses of wine with friends. He got up to go to the bathroom, and doesn’t remember anything past that point. He was dead weight on the floor, and it took four people to lift him up and get him out of the bar. He woke up this morning, his face all smashed up and needing stitches. All he knows is that a kickball girl bought him a drink.

Really curious if there are other reports out there!”

I got some cryptic notes a few months ago that this may have happened to a couple of other people. This is terrifying. Has anyone else heard about anything like this?

Watch your drinks and be sure to watch your friends’ backs.
