Thanks to a reader for passing on this note they received from Spin scooters:

“Starting October 1, DC law will require all riders to lock scooters to a bike rack, sign post, or bike/scooter corral after use. To start a ride, scan the QR code on the handlebar to release the lock.

At the end of your ride, use the Spin app to find the nearest parking location. Then, lock your scooter and take a parking verification photo when prompted. Avoid blocking sidewalks, building entrances, driveways, ADA access ramps, and parking spots.

“Dear PoPville,

I took an electric scooter from Connecticut & K to 9th & K – at 17th my scooter slowed down to a crawl – I thought it was broken so I tried to stop and park it but it was a no park zone. As soon as I hit 14th it sped up again. I’ve never experienced a scooter slowing down in certain areas – is that new?? Has anyone else experienced that??”

“On 6/15/2020 at approximately 6:55 PM, an MPD K9 officer was flagged down for a carjacking that just occurred near the intersection of 11th St SE and Pennsylvania Ave SE. A witness saw the victim on a scooter stopped at a traffic light when a suspect punched the victim and pulled him off of the scooter before riding away. (more…)

Been getting a lot of queries about what’s happened to all the scooters. I believed they were removed after some were used to damage store fronts last Sunday. As the plywood boarding starts to come down, I assume we’ll start to see scooters back on the streets. Stay tuned.
