“Dear PoPville,

Last week pretty much every east-west access road between 14th and 16th Streets NW in 16th Street Heights got blocked with a “Local Traffic Only” barricade. What’s happening there? It’s making my commute to and from Baltimore every day even more annoying than usual.”

Ed. Note: I wonder if it’s related to the Emerson Street change we spoke about last week: Change in Traffic Pattern possibly “because Waze was directing more traffic down those blocks”?

Sarah writes at 9am: “We should not have to wait 13 minutes for a train from U St during rush hour!”

Ed. Note: Obviously we never all agree on something so, is 9am considered rush hour?

But for the record I too think 13 minutes wait is an excruciating one at that hour (unless it is because of an emergency/breakdown.)

“Wreck happens at 1:44 seconds.

This evening on 495 a group of cyclists were riding in 3-4 lanes blocking traffic. As the motorists behind them grew more impatient coupled with some (not all of them) riding ON ONE WHEEL, getting aggressively close to any motorists who tried to pass (made the Food Lion driver really mad!) I knew it was just a matter of time before someone wrecked. *Both of the riders are ok*

Edited to add: The 2nd biker (the one who is is laid out on his back) was actually hit by someone else and not affiliated with this group. Those 3 guys came up to this group just happened to be trying to get past the group when a biker clipped him from the right hand side he was unfortunately hit. Exiled 1823 MC, DC – I certainly hope your guy is making a full recovery.”

Thanks to Clifton for sending Sunday morning:

Kevin reports:

“Pretty nasty accident between police cruiser and sedan this morning at 7 and S. Heard the crash!”

MPD Chief Newsham reports:

“At 4:47 am a female MPD officer rear-ended an uber driver on 7th and R Streets NW. Both were hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries”

Ed. Note: Just heard a story on this from Hear and Now “When Traffic Apps Turn Shortcuts Into Travel Nightmares”.

“Dear PoPville,

Know anything about what appears to be a change in the traffic pattern on Emerson Street between 13th and 16th? New Do Not Enter signs, but no “one way” signs or “change I traffic pattern” signs.

I’m hearing it’s because Waze was directing more traffic down those blocks. That being said signage should be better and clearer (stop signs are still up going the wrong direction) and there should be some indicating a change in traffic pattern.”

Another reader asks: “what’s with Emerson going one way with no warning or neighborhood input?”

A reader reports:

“Looks like street car clipped the mirron on an ambulance at 14th & H. I don’t see any reason to have that lane at a standstill. Just have the cops take the info, and move on and take the car out of service.”

Wowza thanks to Mark for sending. Well here’s to hoping. What do you think a ticket’ll cost?
