On one end of Alaska Ave in NW DC, it intersects 16th St; on the other, it briefly merges with Kalmia Rd, then intersects Georgia Ave. there are arrows painted at each of these two ends–and i’ve tried to draw what they look like. Over the past few years I’ve asked my neighbors what those painted arrows on Kalmia mean, and I’ve gotten a variety of answers. how do you interpret them? (more…)

“Today, the Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) announce the release of a broad-ranging Transportation Electrification Roadmap (TER) to help the District transition its local transportation modes to zero-emission vehicles by 2045. The TER is an encompassing plan to help Washington, DC become carbon neutral by 2050, as called for in the Clean Energy DC Omnibus Act of 2018 (CEDC Act).

“This roadmap is critical to help the District prioritize and contribute to a green and equitable economy across all Wards. We recognize with the important foundation of the 2018 Clean Energy Act, the performance data has provided the District with incredible insight into how we will reach our goals of being a carbon neutral city by 2050,” said DOEE Director Tommy Wells. “By establishing mandates, these efforts will ensure that access to — and benefits from–transportation electrification are equitable and accessible to all District residents.”

Emissions from diesel- and gasoline-powered vehicles contribute approximately 24% of the District’s annual citywide greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). The TER focuses on shifting private, public, and transit vehicles from traditional fossil fuels to highly efficient and zero-emission electric vehicles, using three key methods: (more…)


Update from WWATA:

“At approximately 7 a.m., Metro’s Rail Operations Control Center (ROCC) identified an intermittent IT network connection issue that impacted communications between systems.

Customers throughout the rail system were notified to expect delays and received notification through social, text, Web and Metro Alerts to allow for additional travel time while the issue was assessed. After further review, it was determined that the customer data feed was providing incorrect information to our passenger information system, trip planner and third party apps. The majority of customer trips remained on time throughout the morning, and Metro is currently running scheduled service on all rail lines. (more…)

10th st between Quincy and Spring has been closed for a long time because of construction.
The building has been done for I think 2 months and no sign of work anymore, but they never reopened the road. It is paved and painted. Seems like they just forgot to pull down the fences. (more…)
