“Dear PoPville,

Last night around 2:45am I was woken up by a loud sound, it sounded like a car hitting something. A few seconds later I heard a guy yelling so I looked out the window and across the street he was yelling “I tried to help you! What did you do!” So I look down out of my window and there is a car on the sidewalk that had run over a flower bed (including the small metal enclosure around the flowers) and it looked like it hit the patio area of Hot and Juicy. Readers first reported at 8:50pm: “Anyone know why I’m hearing multiple helicopters over the Downtown/Logan Circle area?”

“We saw a silver sedan being chased by multiple MPD vehicles. It almost took out multiple cars and pedestrians on 13th, M street and came back out from the alley then headed to Thomas Circle”

“Saw car speeding east on N Street, swung left on 13th going south at former BP station with MPD patrols and copter in pursuit. Pedestrians scattered back to sidewalks.”

“Looks like they stopped someone.”

“Ambulance on the scene now.”

“Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a traffic fatality resulting from a traffic crash that occurred on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at the intersection of New York and New Jersey Avenues, Northwest.

Preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 8:22 pm, a silver vehicle was travelling northbound on New Jersey Avenue, Northwest, and ran a red light. At the same time, a pedestrian was crossing New Jersey Avenue, Northwest from east to west, in a marked crosswalk when they were struck by the silver color vehicle. The pedestrian was then struck a second time by a dark color vehicle that was traveling northbound on New Jersey Avenue, Northwest, who ran the red light. (more…)
