There’s no better feeling than stepping into a fresh, clean home after being out of town.

Whether you’re planning an MLK weekend road trip or penciling in travel plans for later this year, remember to schedule a professional home cleaning with Well-Paid Maids, the District’s only living-wage cleaning company.

With Well-Paid Maids, you don’t have to be home for your cleaning. Simply drop your key off or arrange plans to buzz your cleaner in. If you have any special instructions, detail them in home access instructions/parking/other notes when you book your cleaning.

Here’s what one reviewer had to say:

So we came home today to a completely different apartment. I thought we kept it pretty neat and clean, but [it] hasn’t looked like this since we moved in. They cleaned EVERYTHING.

Not only will Well-Paid Maids ensure your home is clean when you return, you can feel good supporting the company. It pays cleaners, who are W-2 employees, a starting wage of $22 an hour and offers insurance, 24 paid days off per year, 100% employer-paid commuting costs and more.

So before you skip town, book a professional home cleaning. Your future post-vacation self will thank you.

  • 1326 Girard Street NW #3 — $899,900 — Columbia Heights
    Open Sat. 1-3 p.m. — Fernando Garcia
“Every so often there comes that unique property that can make you feel as though you’ve just spotted a dazzling unicorn amid the otherwise boring brush. Welcome to Girard Crossing, specifically unit No. 3. While you might get distracted by the intricate-brickwork artistry of this gloriously storied mansion’s facade — somewhat hidden behind the timeless magnolia and cheery maples — do step inside and make your way up the polished staircase to our unicorn. In this exclusive Elysium of a mere seven units, the entire third floor is yours. To the left, your private storage unit; ahead, step into your home. Immediately, you are soothed by the soft embrace of resplendent natural light from northern and eastern exposures, complemented, deeper in, by light from the south and west. The warm Brazilian-cherry floors further enhance the invitation to explore this magical space, as your eyes pass from exposed brick to the whimsical rounded turret to the painstakingly restored period mantel and hearth, housing a gas fireplace. Warmth aside, you’ll likely also be struck by the abundance of space and soaring ceilings as you make your way into unit No. 3. Pass by the ample dining area, and the kitchen is ready with its own list of exciting amenities. There’s the nearly new refrigerator, gas stove, and refurbished island — a bit of old Tampa tobacco history. This kitchen also boasts what so many of its newer contemporaries lack: a walk-in pantry! Abundant storage throughout — to include some Elfa organizing — is another nod to this handsome home’s practicality.”

Take advantage of bountiful discounts at regional restaurants during Metropolitan Washington Restaurant Week, January 16-22

It’s become one of the most anticipated weeks of the year, and now it’s here: Metropolitan Washington Restaurant Week, seven days of heavily discounted heavenly meals at a veritable smorgasbord of cuisines. It runs this year from January 16 to 22 at 200+ restaurants around the region.

Metropolitan Washington Restaurant Week is a great time to revisit favorite eateries or explore new ones around town. It’s the best time of year to check out that restaurant with the celebrity chef or the rising culinary star everyone seems to be talking about. Those reviews you’ve been saving? Now’s the time to book a seat and see for yourself what made the critic rave.

Restaurant Week is also the best time of year to dive into the region’s famed diversity in world-class cuisine — in other words, it’s a great, opportunity to try cultural fare not normally on your menu. The week-long celebration is also a good time to try neighborhoods not normally in your orbit, or to revisit places you haven’t seen in a while.

The week-long promotion works like this: Participating restaurants feature special menus with three-course meals. Lunch is $25, dinners are $40 and $55, and brunch is $25. The menu price point depends on where you dine, but no matter your selection of establishment, you can’t beat the Restaurant Week discount.

Who is participating? Let’s make it easy: Here’s the list of participating locations. Diners can view the full list of participating locations, make reservations, view menus and sign up for RW Diner Rewards.

Members of the National Domestic Workers Alliance speak at a Well-Paid Maids picnic in 2021. All Well-Paid Maids employees are offered an employer-paid membership.

In December, the D.C. Council unanimously voted to pass the Domestic Worker Employment Rights Amendment Act of 2022.

Well-Paid Maids has been a staunch supporter of this bill, which has been in the works since 2019.

The living-wage cleaning company offers its employees a starting minimum wage of $22 an hour, 24 paid days off per year, insurance and more — but not all cleaning companies treat their workers fairly.

In fact, before the bill was passed, an estimated 9,000 domestic workers in the District lacked basic rights, according to the National Domestic Workers Alliance.

This bill will now include domestic workers in D.C.’s Human Rights Act, which provides protection against sexual harassment and discrimination. It also requires employers to create formal, written contracts that outline start dates, work locations, pay, schedules, paid and unpaid leave, and more.

The bill will also establish an outreach and education program to help domestic workers know their rights and how to file a complaint.

This is a huge win — but there’s still work to be done.

Support the fair treatment of domestic workers when you book a home cleaning with Well-Paid Maids.

In 2023, the company will continue to fight for stronger labor laws and work to transform traditionally low-wage industries.

Everyone is sharing their 2022 recaps on social media… so we figured we would, too!

This year was a big one for Well-Paid Maids, D.C.’s living-wage cleaning company. Here are a few of our favorite wins:

⭐️ All of our cleaners were fully vaccinated… and boosted!

⭐️ We expanded our operations into New York — let your NYC friends know!

⭐️ We supported Maryland’s paid family and medical leave program, which passed April 9.

⭐️ Our founder, Aaron Seyedian, spoke with the Department of Labor about the importance of workplace flexibility.

⭐️ We were voted Best Maid Service in D.C. for the second year in a row.

⭐️ We surpassed 100 Yelp reviews with a 5-star average.

⭐️ We supported D.C.’s Domestic Workers Bill of Rights, which passed Dec. 20. (More on that in an upcoming post from us!)

As always, thank you for your support.

In 2023, we’ll continue to pay our employees fair living wages starting at $22 an hour and offer benefits like insurance and 24 paid days off a year.

We’re excited to see what the new year brings, and we look forward to cleaning your home!
