Get Your Home Professionally Cleaned — Without Harsh Chemicals — This Earth Day

This Saturday is Earth Day! To celebrate, we wanted to share how Well-Paid Maids, D.C.’s living-wage cleaning company, is doing its part to help the planet.

While other cleaning companies rely on harsh chemicals, we have only use safe, eco-friendly products.

In the spirit of full transparency, we list specific cleaning products on our website. Each has been rated “low concern” or “lowest concern” from the Environmental Working Group, a leading organization that researches and rates products based on health and sustainability.

Clients are happy with this choice, too. Yelp reviewer J.O. said:

“…the eco-products smell like a day spa and don’t linger (unlike harsher cleaners). With a small child and pets, it’s really important that our house isn’t getting bombarded with chemicals, and the products they use clean just as well!”

Elle V. wrote:

“…when they’re done, my house doesn’t smell like a chemical bomb went off. It’s just CLEAN.”

Of course, we are committed to providing clients the best experience, but using safe cleaning products is important for our employees, too.

Before Jasmine Cooke joined Well-Paid Maids, she worked at a hospital that used harsh chemicals. “You would cough, or you would feel like you were about to pass out,” she said.

We take care of our employees (not contractors!) in other ways, too, with a starting wage of $23 an hour, insurance, 24 paid days off per year, paid commuting costs and more.

We’re about a month out from summer. That means you’ve still got time for spring cleaning!

Lexi Grant, an operations manager at Well-Paid Maids, shared her go-to spring cleaning tips with WTOP News. Step one? Declutter. Get rid of items you don’t use, find space for items that need a home and organize those areas.

Then, it’s time to dust. Lexi starts with high-touch surface areas (think: refrigerator, dishwasher, counters, microwave). One area she sees often neglected is the bedroom — and it makes sense. Heavy furniture is difficult to move around, but it’s important to really get in there so dust doesn’t affect your sleep.
