A reader told me about this weeks ago – sorry for the delay! From 17th St, NW.

I love the randomness of these signs, they make me smile every time I pass them. Above from H St, NE below, and my personal favorite, below from Capitol Hill. I always wonder what was promoted in the upper left square. I imagine something like Chesterfield cigarettes perhaps.

Well you can barely make out the sign but I’m 99% sure it says B. Roth Saddlery from 1033 7th St, NW at the corner of L. I’m pretty sure the building next door has been nominated as a horse’s ass award. I guess I should add this one to the list as well. Pretty ironic/awesome that the building used to sell saddles.
But the fact that you can still (barely) see a sign for B. Roth Saddelry is pretty cool. Hard to imagine horses galloping down 7th St, NW.

I always thought of this as more of an elementary school/middle school protection…

When I first spotted this store at 3533 14th St, NW the sign said Chickas. Turns out that was a typo.

I thought this was a pretty humorous last message (I assume) left by the owners of Adams Mill Bar & Grill which closed last week at 1813 Adams Mill Rd NW, to (I assume) the owner of the building. In the picture above you can see small red sign on the last window on the right hand side. Here’s a close up:

I’ve been meaning to share this for weeks. I passed this on New Hampshire Ave, NW in Takoma Park heading towards the beltway. Is this the most random store ever? I really have no other commentary other than to say, at the risk of being insensitive, that imagining what these wigs might look like made me very very happy.

These beauties are from the Florida Avenue Market in North East.

Bistro La Bonne has been open about a full year on U St, NW. I actually think it’s quite good. But I couldn’t help but notice the grand opening sign is still flying proudly. After a year. So what’s the appropriate amount of time to have a grand opening sign?
And for fun – what’s the longest one up that you’ve seen announcing a grand opening. I think there was a hair salon nearby, actually, that had a grand opening sign for at least 6 years.
