“Dear PoP,

We would love if you would help draw a little attention to our 5% Day at Whole Foods this week. At all three stores on Wed. the 15th, 5% of sales will directly benefit The Farm at Walker Jones, an emerging urban farm serving the great kids, families and neighbors of Walker Jones Education Campus, a DC public school.

Our farm is huge by school standards, and was launched as part of larger school wellness initiatives for our school population. 100% of our kids receive free meals here at school, and we want to help both the children and the families realize that sound food choices are accessible to all.”

This was a pleasant surprise. While Fat Daddy’s bills itself as serving ‘Breakfast, Fried Chicken, Seafood & Sandwiches’, this is most definitely not a take out space. It is casual on the inside, but like it’s owner Jeff, it’s got lots of charm. The restaurant opened up last Sat. and was named by Jeff’s 2 year old son. A few of the items of the menu are named after Jeff’s family. I nearly wept at the site of the breakfast menu:

Belgian Waffle, French Toast and Hot Cakes as well as Breakfast Sandwiches all for between $2.25 and $5.25. Other items you’ll find on the menu are Chicken Wings, Meatloaf, Chicken, a variety of Seafood, Burgers & Sandwiches, Subs (hot and cold), Salads as well as a variety of sides including collard greens, cornbread, yams, french fries, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables and more. It was awesome to see such reasonably priced fare. When’s the last time you saw a hamburger for $2.25?

They are open 7 days a week Mon. – Thurs. 6am – 11pm, Fri. & Sat. 6am – 1am and Sun. 6am – 7pm.

The space is a bit spartan but comfortable. There is a tv and newspapers plus wifi is coming soon. All in all this looks like a great addition to the neighborhood.

“Dear PoP,

Joshua Boudreaux, a Petworth resident, has been missing since Monday, September 6. We have reason to believe he may have gone to brunch at Level 1 on Monday. Josh is 5’5″, 140 lbs, white male, dirty blonde hair, blue eyes. A missing persons report has been filed with the DC Metro Police Department (CIN-132-184). If you have any information relevant to this missing persons case, please contact the DC Metro Police or [email protected]. Josh was last seen at his home on the 300 block of Rock Creek Church Rd NW on Monday afternoon.”

UPDATE:

“Josh has been found. He is suffering from a severe case of bacterial meningitis and was picked up by the police/EMS late Monday night”

“Dear PoP,

Take a close look at that red SUV in the photo. That’s MPD just waiting for you to speed down Rock Creek Church Road over by the Solider’s Home. And good for them! RCCR is a speedway with drivers breaking the speed limit with no regard for Park View residents. Here is hoping that the police arrest all the too-fast drivers with their cool undercover speed enforcement vehicles.”

They’ll probably just get tickets but hopefully this will act as a deterrent because it seems every year or so a car will lose control and smash into a section of the Soldier’s Home fence…

“Dear PoP,

It seems as though there have been people working inside of the Mario’s Pizza place on the corner of Georgia and Princeton, across from Looking Glass Lounge. Have you heard anything about it?”

I stopped by Wed. afternoon and learned that it is going to become a West Indian Take Out place called ‘The Lion’s Den’. They hope to open sometime next week. I’ll be sure to update when an opening date is confirmed.

Mario’s Pizza was last home to First Time Computers at 3519 Georgia Ave, NW over 2 years ago.

“Dear PoP,

Look what appeared on a light post in Petworth, a little spy video camera. It faces the front of 3 houses. It wasn’t there before the wind storm took off the globe and now the neighborhood is wondering who is watching us. And is this just our personal Big Brother or does your light post have an addition too?”

Wow, that is really freaky. It looks very amateur. Anyone ever see a camera like this before around town?

Located less than two blocks from the Petworth Metro, this Far East Columbia Heights rowhome was divided into two condominium units in 2004. As is common with these types of conversions, the upper unit is a 3 bedroom, 2 and a ½ bath duplex (two levels), while the subject property is a single level 1 bedroom 1 and ½ bath basement unit. Originally sold for $400,000., the larger unit saw the value of increased commercial development around the Petworth Metro and re-sold for $450,000. less a $10,000. subsidy in May 2008.

Continues after the jump. (more…)
