I’m happy to finally be able to share an update since the groundbreaking took place over a year and a half ago. We’ve got some serious progress! I was super psyched to a new permit go up on the front window:

A Demolition permit had been up for a while and while major demolition was accomplished we can now see a Building permit posted which is when the real build out takes place. Every time I walk by the space at 3813 Georgia Ave, NW (just north of the metro) I hear work going on. It seems like a late Autumn/early Winter opening isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

And another sign of more good news is that ANC rep Robert Mandle says that they’ve applied for an ABRA alcohol license which will likely be on the ANC’s September agenda (which is when you can show your support if you’d like, I’ll send a reminder at that time.)

Sweet!

For those not familiar with the project from the folks behind Marvin, Gibson, Blackbyrd and more you can read some background info here.

Thanks to Jeremy from DC Reynolds for sharing:

“Dapper my Rhodesian Ridgeback can’t wait for some 4 legged friends to join him on his patio this fall.

We even have a creative “excuse” for why the flag will show upside-down on google maps. The upside down flag is an official sign of distress and as DC residents we are proclaiming our sign of distress for being taxed without proper representation.

Or we just didn’t think about google maps when we were building the patio haha.

The patio is made of about 1200 12″x12″ brick pavers.”

DC Reynolds will be located at 3628 Georgia Ave, NW near Looking Glass Lounge and Blue Banana.

Solar Party and Solar Tour

Date: Friday August 5th
Location: 4700 14th Street, NW
Time: 5:00-9:00 PM

Dear Solar Supporters. Summer is here and the sun is shining. We have fought many battles this year and won a few big ones! It is time to celebrate, mix, mingle, take stock, brainstorm and talk about what should we do next to make DC the most solar city on the planet! You are invited to a BBQ / social. The party is being hosted at 4700 14th street by Solar Solution, an installer located in the heart of Petworth! Come meet other solaristas! This is an open party for the entire solar community– members of DC Sun, members of the DC Government, Council Members, Solar Installers, local and national environmental leaders, policy and industry folks not to mention curious and interested residents! Please invite your friends and neighbors to join you so that we can make DC a green community.

We want to especially encourage Petworth and other Ward 4 residents to come out and join the fun– as we push to strengthen the Petworth Solar Coop. For more info about the Petworth Solar Coop contact Maria Wilson mailto:[email protected]

TOUR: We will have a small solar tour of Petworth based solar installations– before the party. If you are interested in participating in the solar tour RSVP [email protected] There are several residential installations and a few commercial installations that we will be able to show that are within walking distance.

FOOD and DRINK: We will be cooking hot dogs, hamburgers. Please bring a side dish, salad, dessert or something for the grill. Join the solar fun!

$599,000 sound right for this 4 bed/3.5 bath?

Ed. Note: A 4 bed/3.5 bath just went under contract a block away at 723 Taylor St, NW (asking $599,000)

Back in early July King & I Pizza opened up at 847 Upshur St, NW. I’m happy to see that they’ve fixed up the space nicely with fresh paint and a new awning. I’m also told that the Gyro machine is in!

$5.99 for a gyro with fries sounds pretty good:

I took a walk through Rock Creek Church Cemetery (St. Paul’s Church by Rock Creek Church Rd and Webster St, NW and near the Old Soldiers Home grounds) and while I always admire the sculptures, I was taken with some of the “ordinary” headstones. So this’ll be an occasional feature highlighting some of those and other remembrances around town.

“Dear PoP,

Interesting hit and run in the 300 block of Rock Creek Church Road Nw this morning. Witnesses heard a crash and saw the driver of the vehicle trying to leave the scene. The driver was traveling uphill (northeast) along Rock Creek Church Rd, crossed the yellow line, and smashed into vehicles parked on the other side. Once the driver saw he had an audience, he got out of the vehicle and walked away. Described as a Hispanic male wearing blue shorts.

If anyone saw anything or anyone suspicious this am hiding or seemed out of place, please contact MPD.

Parked cars were removed via tow truck.”

Ed. Note: And I don’t mean to make light of this very serious situation but seeing the quote “One City Summer Fun … Something for Everyone” underneath this message is probably not good messaging for “One City”.
