“WASHINGTON, DC: PLEASE KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR WINNIE (GOLDEN RETRIEVER). Our building (Capitol View on 14) reported that an Asian man who claimed to be a dog walker, picked her up several hours ago and did not return her. We are desperately searching for her.”
Update: “thank you everyone. She’s been located. It was a new dog walker for the building across the street (same apartment #) and he just returned her. Honestly the most traumatizing half hour of our lives worrying about our little girl but she’s safe and sound (and we have implemented a new security process with the building for her walks). Thank you everyone for the quick attention to Winnie!!”

Yesterday Kevin passed on this letter from Wagtime:
“Dear Wagtime clients and family,
We want to share an unfortunate and tragic incident that occurred some months ago in the daycare at our SE location. Most of you know how passionate we are about fostering dogs at Wagtime and Wagtime Too for local animal rescue organizations. The dogs we foster are held to the same vaccination and spay/neutering standards as our private clients and their temperaments are also evaluated at the Humane Society by their behaviorists and trainers, by the rescue, and then by us upon arrival.
A few months ago, we fostered a small, young lab mix puppy named Haley, for a local rescue. Haley had passed all three evaluations. She was a very sweet and cute puppy and displayed no obvious signs of aggression whatsoever. Haley had been in our care at Wagtime Too for a week with similar tiny dogs and puppies. The incident occurred during overnight hours when Haley attacked another dog. As always, Wagtime overnight staff was in the room. However, the attack was unpredictable and happened so quickly that it was unpreventable.
Over 6,000 dogs a month come through our doors for daycare and boarding. Though this has been the only incident of its kind, it is still tragic and heartbreaking, not only for the owner of the dog, but for us and our dedicated staff as well. It is very important that we assure all of our clients that this incident was not in any way caused by negligence.
We are passionate about Wagtime and have dedicated the past 17 years to giving the best possible care to your pets, as well as donating our time and resources to help rescue dogs in need. We appreciate your understanding, and look forward to continuing our relationship in the future.

“A local woman is speaking out after her dog died at a pet boarding facility in the District.
The owners of that facility are adamant they did nothing wrong.”
“We found this cute lil pup yesterday (3rd and Decatur St, NW) he is currently at the Humane Rescue Alliance on New York Ave. If you know of anyone who lost a pup that fits his description please share. We named him “NoChip” since he, unfortunately, has not been chipped.
He was super friendly and trusting, playing with other dogs and children, and followed us without a leash. If his owner does not come forward within 5 days he will be up for foster care or adoption. Contact the Humane Rescue Alliance or follow this link for more information here.”

“We found this cute little dog this morning around 6:15 a.m. in the intersection of Holmead Place NW and Monroe Street NW. We brought it home, fed it breakfast and made a bunch of flyers and posted them around the neighborhood. This little guy is very sweet, has a collar, but no ID. I took him to the NY Avenue Humane Rescue Alliance this morning. He is not chipped. If you know who he belongs to please let them know where he is. Thanks.”
