“Dear PoPville,
My partner and I are now both working from home during isolation and while we thought the dogs would enjoy more company around, one of our dogs has been acting out. This week, he’s chewed a shoe up, took a sweet potato pocket off my plate and today woke up to him chewing on a stuffed animal my girlfriend has had for 30+ years–all things he never did until this week. We’ve been playing with them more, taking them on longer walks than we typically would and yet he still misbehaves. He has dozens of toys to chew so he’s not lacking in that department. Just curious if anyone else is noticing their animal’s behavior changing at all. Does he need more alone time to balance out all the time we are spending home? Any reader advice or experience would be appreciated.“

“Dear PoPville,
I wanted to share a little light in this hard time. My apartment looks out to an alley with another building on the other side. This morning, I saw a note taped to my neighbor’s window. It’s hard to read, but we think it says “Dear cat across the alley, thanks for being cute!” Of course, Midge said thank you. Right now, it’s the little things that mean so much!”

Longtime readers of the site know my affinity for fish so this one hits home – thanks to Patricia for passing on from Penn Quarter Teaism:
“Well friends… wanted to do a live video but wasn’t sure how to do it on Facebook and Instagram at the same time. If you’re stuck at home with kids who normally like to come watch the fish, you can entertain them with this. (more…)

Thanks to Amy for sending from the 43 bus yesterday.

“Dear PoPville,
Whenever my neighbor wants to walk their dogs, they just open up their fenced back yard and allow their dogs to roam freely down the alley behind our houses. The dogs frequently come into my yard and do their business. My home video cameras have captured this multiple times (13 to date). I have talked with them, written them two letters, and sent them a care package of a leash, two collars, and doggie bags, as seen in the attached photo. They keep refusing to leash their animals, and I keep ending up with messes in my backyard. (more…)

Thanks to Allison for passing on from the Shaw Dog Park Committee:
“Thank you to everyone who helped share your voice and concerns with DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR)! The agency informed us yesterday (March 6) that they will have a temporary dog park set up at the corner of Rhode Island and Q, NW (south of the skateboard park). That park will be ready for use starting April 1. We are told this park will have appropriate fencing and a double gate. They are still anticipating a Fall 2021 re-opening of the Shaw Dog Park at 11th and R NW. (more…)

Update on Champ missing from Bloomingdale:
“Yesterday’s post resulted in 4 sightings of Champ! He is still alive and seems to be sticking around the golf course at the Old Soldiers Home just north of Washington Hospital Center. I was able to gain access to the grounds yesterday and came within a few feet of him, but he is so scared he would not come anywhere near me. He is still somewhere out there. The security team on the grounds has seen him multiple times and has even tried to capture him. I left him food at the spots I saw him and I hope he comes back there to eat. I hope he will stay within this fenced area until he is caught or his hunger grows stronger than his fear. If any of your readers were to see him (he has approached multiple dog walkers on the other side of the fence), any attempt to put a collar/leash on him would be incredibly welcome. He is very gentle and would not react aggressively. I am going to speak to the head of the campus security today to see if they will continue granting me access to the property to try to catch him. Not sure what my next move is exactly, but I have seen my dog alive less than 24 hours ago, so this is a huge development. If any of your readers can help or if they see him, I continue to ask them to call me at 202-420-0176. Thanks so much to the community for helping me thus far. I can’t tell you how much it means.”

Thanks to A. for sending: “We need to press them to provide a good temporary space in the interim and better communications!”
“The dog park will temporarily close for the duration of the Banneker High School Modernization Project. It is expected to reopen in Fall 2021. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
He broke his collar and took off running. The last I saw him he was running north on 1 St. NW and Rhode Island. He is an Airedale Terrier. He is brown and black and weighs about 70 pounds. I just took him from an abusive home and he is so scared of everything. He is very gentle and would never hurt you if you approach him. Please call 202-420-0176 if you have any information. $500 reward.”
