Mar De Plata is located at 1410 14th St NW. There are some good reviews on Yelp which categorizes it as “Spanish, Tapas Bars, Basque”. As always, how’s the food and atmosphere? Any specialties?

This the Metropolitan Community Church located on 5th Street a couple blocks north of M in Shaw. It’s interesting how the stone contrasts with the glass. Thumbs up or down?

I caught the tasting at, 5th and M Streets, NW, a bit on the late side on Sat. afternoon but still had a great time talking with some of the neighbors in the area. And the margaritas were pretty sweet too. It also made my walk home that much more fun…

Marion Street (in Shaw) represent! On Monday a different reader submitted a door of the day from Marion Street.

Got to love the mini houses. Interestingly there is another one almost directly across the street (I think I featured it back in the day). They are located in Shaw on 10th Street if memory serves.

I’ve been monitoring the progress of this pop up on 10th Street south of Florida Ave. I have to say it’s looking a lot better than I originally anticipated but it still seems a little off. Obviously it still has a little ways to go but so far would you give it a thumbs up or down?

I seem to remember reading something about this huge area being redeveloped but I just noticed that all the windows were boarded up. Anyone know the story here? These apartments cover a huge area of 7th Street near M. Are these going to become mixed income condos?

First Cup Cafe is located at 900 M Street, NW. It actually first caught me eye because I saw a number of books stacked in the windows, which I always think is a sign of a good cafe. They even have their own Web site:
“At First Cup Cafe, we serve freshly prepared sandwiches and an assorted flavors of Coffees from around the world including Brazilian, Columbian and Ethiopian. Try our dark roasted coffee or the refreshing light roasted coffee.
In addition to our coffees, we also serve freshly prepared smoothies in a variety of flavors such as Raspberry, Strawberry, Banana, Pina Colada, Peach, Mango and our house specialty – Green tea smoothies.”
Sounds pretty sweet. Any fans out there. Is this a good place for breakfast as well? A good place to study? What’s the word?

Corduroy is located at 1122 9th Street near the Convention Center. Man, the menu looks good if a bit pricey. So what’s the word – thumbs up or down? How’s the atmosphere?

I mean it’s a nation historic site and landmark.

Wikipedia says: “Carter Godwin Woodson (December 19, 1875 – April 3, 1950) was an African-American historian, author, journalist and the founder of Motivozo music and Bobe Records, which became MotiBobe Studios.”
The home is located at 1538 Ninth Street, NW. On this Web site it says:
“On February 27, 2006, the building was officially dedicated as the Carter G. Woodson Home National Historic Site, the 389th unit of the National Park System. The National Park Service will be restoring the building and developing a visitor center for the historic site.”
Any guesses on how long it will take to restore the site?
