Well, these storefronts at the corner of 9th and N, NW have been vacant for a super long time. It looks like Independence Bank will be taking most of them over. I’ll have to file this under better than vacant. But, I’m serious with this one, would you rather have a CVS in this location?

At the original list price of $720,000, most Good Deal or Not (GDoN) commenters gave this home, which needed quite a bit of work, a thumbs down. Although it’s not going to work all the time, this looks like a good case for putting an offer out there for what you actually think a property is worth, despite the list price. While the asking price was eventually lowered to $695,000., it sold for more than $100,000. below that.

I didn’t have an opportunity to get inside this property while it was listed, but I pass by it frequently. It is unusual to find a fully detached single family home in this part of the city and I find the architecture quite intriguing. The interior pics suggest some interesting original details and I really hope that this turns out to be a thoughtful renovation.

I gave Howard Theater the Horse’s Ass Award at the beginning of the month. Well, I’ve gotten a few emails that work has finally started! Awesome. One reader sums it up nicely:

“It’s news because they are finally starting the long awaited work on Howard Theater.”

Indeed. And if you have Horse’s Ass Award recommendations please email me at princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com

The photo above is what I think is new(ish) construction in Georgetown. I think the “tower” structure in the front looks good. You?

And here’s a green roof in an alley off 14th Street on a carriage house (not exactly a carriage house but I don’t what to call it…). Here’s a proper carriage house:

Personally I think green roofs are super cool:

Next to today’s “judging buildings” at 455 Mass Ave., NW is a big sign for Buddha Bar. The Triangle blog has a bit more info. Looks like it could be pretty cool. Anyone else familiar with this spot? Apparently they have a spot in NYC, anyone ever been?

And while it has looked ready to open for a while, I’m beginning to suspect the dry cleaner to open at Florida and 13th Street, NW, may never open…

Back in April a reader sent in photos from the “Wonder Bread” building at the 600 Block of S Street, NW. The original reader sent a number of shots of old bikes that it turned out belonged to the defunct Shaw Bike Shop. Another reader was able to find some old photos they had taken. It’s pretty wild. Ed. Note: Please enjoy these photos but do not try and enter the building yourself. You can be arrested for trespassing but more importantly you can get hurt. Thanks.

A photo of the exterior of the building after the jump. (more…)

Wow, this is some proper house porn. What do you think of the house itself? It’s yours for $1,850,000.

I was blown away by how cool this wall looked with all the staples but no posters. Pretty wild, yeah?
