I guess I really do like this section of 10th Street, NW! I like the contrast of this corner house with the rowhomes. Almost it looks like it’s from London.

Back in Nov. ’07 we learned that the Lagos Cafe was set to come to 826 Shepherd Street, NW. Alas there was little progress. It’s possible I just never noticed this before but I just looked inside and the place is painted and built out:

So perhaps, it’s finally close to coming? Anyone know about this?

And the building at 1333 14th Street, NW has been completed. It will be the new home of a web design company, fathomcreative:

Before the building was renovated, while in a very sad state, the brick was red. Do you prefer natural red brick or the way it looks now?

“The FAB-U-LOUS 1200 block of 10th is a hidden treasure! This semi-detached 2BR/2.5BA top-2-btm renov is on a block w/ beautiful, well kept homes & great neighbors! LARGER than it looks w/ great light from N/S/E, high ceilings, wood flrs, gas fp, custom built-ins, stuctured wiring thruout, large MBR w/ tray ceiling, gorgeous kit w/ 3 windows, wine fridge, 2 Juliet balconies, slate patio & PARKING!”

More info and photos found here.

Well no doubt this a nice renovation. I’m also interested to hear what you think about the value of the new wiring (you can see in one of the photos). But this 2 bed 2.5 bath will not come cheap – $693,000? Is the renovation/location that good? Wow, I actually see that the status says, “Contingent (No Kick Out)”. So did they get a good deal?

A charmer in a great neighborhood!!”

I think this is a pretty interesting unit. You have to check out the virtual tour. The rooms are really uniquely shaped in a pretty cool way. It’s also nice that it’s got skylights. What do you think of the shapes of the rooms? Does $499,000 sound good for a 2 bed 1 bath unit in this location?

“Dear PoP,

I love reading your blog and thought you might be a good person to ask about what is happening at the former Zenebech Injera Ethiopian restaurant on T between 6th and 7th NW, a few doors down from the Howard Theatre. Any idea? There are building permits up and work seems to be going on inside but I haven’t seen anybody there to ask if they have any information. Anyway, it’s a pretty blighted block at the moment so it would be great if some new restaurant or shop was going in.”

A few folks have asked me about this spot and we discussed the nearby Yellow House Restaurant on the 600 block of T Street, NW. Sadly when I walked by last weekend there was a stop work order:

Though the other permits said the place will still be a restaurant. I’m not sure if there are new owners or not but I’ll be sure to monitor its progress and post updates. Does anyone happen to know if it is just renovations or will become a new restaurant?

Incidentally I didn’t realize that this area was called the Duke Ellington Plaza:

The Duke definitely deserves less shuttered store fronts on his plaza.

The info on the permits in the window say the proposed use will be a restaurant. Sadly, I don’t know what type but if I were a betting man, I’d guess Ethiopian. There is a storefront right next door that has a cool copper front that is also getting renovated I’m just not sure if it is part of the same proposed restaurant or will be something else. It’s nice to see this section of 9th Street, NW get fixed up as many of these storefronts have been rundown for quite a while.

“Spacious 7th floor 1 bedroom near convention center/downtown. Floor to ceiling corner windows and balcony with lots of light and gas stove! Great location: 3 blocks to metro (green/yellow), and walking distance distance to red line (Chinatown), Dupont and Logan circles, and National Mall. Pet-friendly with front desk, common rooftop deck, garage parking, and storage included.”

More info and photos found here.

I’ve always been a big fan of this building. It’s the building that has two parts, one of which we’ve judged in the past. I also think this is a pretty solid location. Do you think this 1 bed/1 bath with parking sounds reasonable for $384,000?

Ed. Note: From time to time I get reader or realtor requests but I only post if I genuinely find them interesting.

I’m interested to hear what you think of the location for this home. It’s a very interesting spot on Sherman Ave. It feels pretty isolated but is actually quite close to Florida Ave. and the U Street spots. I wonder what you think about the walk from the metro? And of course what do you think of the home and renovations? Does $449,500 sound reasonable?

A few weeks ago I wrote about the For Lease sign in the current location of Long View Gallery at 1302 9th Street, NW. They will be moving to a spot that sorely needs a renovation:

Thanks to Renewshaw for letting me use the photos and renderings from architect, Will Couch. Renewshaw broke the news first. I’ll be touring the space as constructions proceeds. Here’s what the inside will look like:

It’s great to see this section of 9th Street, NW get some love. After the jump you can find the full press release. (more…)

I really enjoy watching the progress of homes that are being built from the ground up. This one is located at 2121 11th Street, NW and seems very promising. It looks like it’s going to have a nice third floor balcony:

Can you tell at this point if you like the style. I’ll be sure to update as it progresses.
