“Dear PoP,

Is it true that Prince Charles is visiting LeDroit Park’s Common Good City Farm this Tuesday?? Anyone have any more info on this bizarre story? If true, the Princes should definitely meet. A PoW and PoP photo would be quite nice/amazing, indeed.”

Indeed it is true! I got an email yesterday from Common Good City Farm that at first I thought was a joke, given the wedding and all. But it’s the real deal:

“Dear PoP,

Common Good City Farm has two very exciting Tuesday May 3rd events to announce—one on the Farm and one at Big Bear Café.

It is with honor that I write to inform you that His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales will be visiting Common Good City Farm on Tuesday May 3rd, 2011 from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. (The Farm is located in LeDroit Park on V St. NW between 2nd and 4th Sts. NW.) HRH Prince Charles is a long-time supporter of sustainable agriculture and we are privileged and grateful for his visit. We at Common Good City Farm would like you to join us as we welcome the Prince to our farm and neighborhood. To ensure that His Royal Highness can tour the farm properly, we’ll have to limit access to the farm itself but you can show your support for the farm by joining us in the surrounding area and sharing in the festive welcome for His Royal Highness.

Following HRH Prince Charles’ visit to our Farm, Common Good City Farm will hold a fundraiser after party at Big Bear Café from 6-10 p.m., involving mint juleps and music. A $20 donation is requested.

Bistro Bohem Coming to 6th and Florida Ave, NW in Ledroit Park

This section of Florida Ave, NW is booming. This new spot will be located between the recently opened Zee’s Restaurant and the “soon to be” Shaw’s Tavern. Bistro Bohem will be located at 1840 6th St, NW and the liquor license application says:

“New Restaurant serving European Bistro full range of full meals and light fare. Background music will be provided, no live entertainment. With a Sidewalk Café. Seating – 50, Total Occupancy Load – 65, Sidewalk Café – 24.”

Nice! Great to see so many vacant storefronts start to get filled in here. Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

Judging Coffee Shops – Florida Coffee House

The Florida Coffee House is located at 220 Florida Ave, NW. While they opened in late Jan. I’m told that they are now open 7 days a week. Anyone check them out yet? Is this a good alternative for when the nearby Big Bear is too crowded? Do you they have any good eats?

Shaw’s Tavern Coming to 520 Florida Ave, NW Hopes to Open in June

“Dear PoP,

Any news about the commercial spot at 512-520 florida ave, NW Between 6th and 5th?? Everything I read back in September sounded like it was going to have something by the new year! I’m dying to know what ends up there!”

Last night @LeDroitParkDC tweeted:

“Shaw’s Tavern at 520 FL Ave NW scheduled to open in June. Wood oven pizza, pastas & tavern classics on the menu.”

Left for LeDroit shares a floor plan and writes:

The restaurant, slated to open in mid-June, will seat 65 – 70 people inside and 15 – 18 people on a sidewalk patio on the 6th Street front. On Florida Avenue near the eastern end of the building, the restaurant will feature a special door just for take-out pizza orders.

Inside, however, the restaurant will feature a variety of entrées priced from $12 – $18. Mr. May distributed a tentative menu.

Beau Thai Applies for Alcohol Permit/Outdoor Seating in Shaw

Beau Thai is located at 1700 New Jersey Avenue NW (by R St). When the first opened back in August there were lots of fans. Seems natural that they should be able to serve alcohol as well. I’m also eager to see the “Sidewalk Café with seating for 30.” – looks like a perfect space for a sidewalk cafe.
