Anyone have a chance to check out Crios which opened in late July at the former Vento space at 2120 P St, NW?

Their Website says:

We are sisters, Joanne and Julie Liu, and our parents immigrated to the United States over thirty-five years ago and started Jenny’s Chinese Restaurant. Through years of hard work and resilience, they created what is now Jenny’s Asian Fusion on the Southwest D.C. waterfront. In 2009, we opened Scion Restaurant.

We’ve always had a love for Mexico’s vibrance and dynamic, and especially for its fresh and bold cuisine. With Crios Modern Mexican, we aim to create a welcoming and energetic neighborhood restaurant serving delectable food and drink.

You can see their menu here.

Back in Oct. 2010 we were saddened to learn that Iron Gate restaurant was closing at 1734 N St, NW. Fortunately in May 2012 we learned Iron Gate would be reopening under chef Tony Chittum from Vermilion in Alexandria.

The liquor license says:

“This is a new restaurant serving Greek and Italian style cuisine. Total Occupancy 99, with 50 seats. Summer Garden has 120 seats.”

It’ll be awesome to get the summer garden seating back in action. Updates as construction progresses.

From MPD:

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit announced that an arrest has been made in regard to a series of sexual assaults that occurred in the area of Dupont Circle Northwest. Two of the assaults occurred in the 1200 block of Connecticut Avenue. One assault occurred in the 1900 block of Q Street and the fourth assault occurred at 16th and U Streets. These assaults occurred during the first two weeks of August 2012, and involved a suspect who approached unsuspecting women, touched them in an unlawful manner, and quickly fled.

An investigation by members of the Sexual Assault Unit, along with the assistance of Second District patrol officers, led to the identity of the suspect. Subsequently, an arrest warrant was obtained.

On Thursday, August 23, 2012, at approximately 5:00 pm, members from Sexual Assault Unit arrested 30 year-old Oscar Mauricio Carnejo-Pena Northwest, DC, pursuant to the arrest warrant and charged him with four counts of Misdemeanor Sexual Abuse.

The investigation will continue as detectives try to determine if the suspect is responsible for any additional assaults that have occurred.

“With these types of assaults on the rise, it is good to get this suspect off the streets,” said Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier. “Women should be able to walk freely without being violated.”

More details here.

Any fans of acupuncture? If so, what do you use it for?

Little Serow has opened to great acclaim at 1511 17th St, NW:

Little Serow (rhymes with arrow) serves a family-style dinner of northern and northeastern Thai dishes for $45 per person. We post the menu online each Tuesday.

Unfortunately, no menu substitutions are possible.

Walk-ins only; no reservations. When we are on a wait, we will send a text message when ready. We can only accommodate groups of four or fewer.

Looks like they’re taking a well deserved summer break:

Cafe Green and sister restaurant, Java Green, have been closed due to a suspension in their retail sales by DC government. In the past we’ve noted these retail suspensions are often due to tax issues. Last year we noted that both Cafe Green (1513 17th St, NW) and Java Green (1020 19th St, NW) were for sale.

Cafe Green closed until further notice
