Update from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Friday, May 13, 2022, in the 3700 block of 14th Street, Northwest.

At approximately 1:43 am, members of the Fourth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, members located an adult male victim, on a Metro bus, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC FEMS members transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 18-year-old Anthony Arter, of Northwest, DC. (more…)

At approximately 10:50 pm, members of the Third District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, the members located a juvenile male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. (more…)

“Booking It for Young Authors: 826DC’s Half-Half-Half-Half-Half Marathon

The District’s shortest race–0.826 of a mile, to be exact–returns on June 4th. Everyone’s invited to briefly book it for youth literacy at 826DC’s second Half-Half-Half-Half-Half Marathon, an offbeat fundraiser from a unique DC nonprofit.

826DC supports local students ages 6-18 with their writing skills and helps teachers inspire their students to write. The Half-Half-Half-Half-Half Marathon will help fund 826DC’s 100% free writing workshops, homework help, and publishing opportunities at their Columbia Heights writing center (which students enter through a not-so-secret secret door in 826DC’s magic shop storefront) and in learning spaces across the city.
