In other Columbia Heights news, @MrTinDC sends an update on the former Uptowner Deli space which closed in August:

“.@PoPville The old Uptowner Deli space in the Tivoli has permit in window for a Verizon Wireless Store. Better than vacant, but… BO-ring!”

I’m afraid I agree with Mr. T – better than vacant but worse than the former deli for sure.

“As I was walking up 14th Street in Columbia Heights, I saw a poster for this promotion and thought I would send a heads up.”

Back in December we learned The Heights had been sold by Eatwell DC but would remain a “neighborhood-centric place”. Anyone visit since the new ownership took over?

“Dear PoPville,

Anyone hear the two to three gunshots in Columbia Heights early Sat morning, around 3:30 at Holmead Place and Newton?

Also has anyone seen an uptick of drug activity -selling- around 14th and Meridian, by the old Get A Way spot? This activity is spilling over to the side streets both East and West of 14th. Newton, Meridian, Oak. Lots of people hannging out on these residential corners waiting for deliveries.”

“Dear PoPville,

I was walking home from dinner with friends Wednesday night in Columbia Heights around 10:30pm when I was robbed about one block from the Columbia Heights metro. The incident occurred by the metro bus stop right by the intersection of 13th and Irving. I passed the CVS on 14th on Irving and noticed a group of teenagers. After passing them I heard whispering and had the feeling I was being followed by the group. I stopped hearing footsteps half way down the block and figured I was ok until I was grabbed by my jacket and forced at gun point to hand over my valuables.

I know it’s a long shot but if anyone comes across a red Michael Kors Purse, a pink wallet (containing credit cards, DC license, etc.) and most importantly car keys with a keyless entry remote at the top (both sets were in my purse) in the neighborhood it would be great if they could let me know. Replacing my car keys is going to cost me quite a bit of money so it would be great if I could get at least one set back.

I really want people that live in the neighborhood to make sure they are being alert because it happened right by the intersection of 13th and irving (a busy road and people were around).”

From MPD:

“On today’s date [Wednesday?], at approximately 20:45 hours, members of 3-D VICE Unit were conducting covert operations in the area of 1200 Clifton Street, NW when they intervened in an “Attempted Theft-I Stolen Auto” in progress.

Investigation revealed a 15 year old male suspect had destroyed a vehicle window, entered the vehicle and quickly broke the vehicles steering column and ignition switch in an attempt to hot-wire the vehicle. Members of 3-D VICE were able to catch the juvenile suspect in the act and he was subsequently arrested.

During a search incident to his arrest, the juvenile suspect was found to be in possession of a book bag containing numerous screwdrivers, suspected to be implements of the crime for which he was arrested.
