“Dear PoP,

Maybe you’d be interested to know that Sabores has “unexpectedly closed” (Groupon had emailed everyone who had bought a Groupon for Sabores about receiving a refund). I have no idea why but it has been closed for quite a while. The rumor on the CP listserve was that is was due to “electrical problems” and that they were working it out with the landlords. The sign said that it was closed due to “complications”.”

And by today they also mean tomorrow

I’ve been getting a few emails about the closure of Sabores. This comes on the heels of last Sunday’s closure of the great Yanni’s Greek restaurant located across the street from Sabores. Sabores was located at 3433 Connecticut Ave, NW.

Were there any fans?

Update: Sept. 10 – a reader reports that Sabores has re-opened.

Wow, that is a cool staircase. What do you guys think about the house itself? I think this was actually a ‘Judging Homes’ selection back in the day (just judging the outside), it certainly is nontraditional. But I think the inside is pretty sweet. The reader who sent in the request was a bit shocked by the price – it’s yours for $1,987,700.

Yanni’s located at 3500 Connecticut Ave, NW closed its doors Sunday night. I am still in mourning. Yanni’s was not the fanciest of restaurants, it wouldn’t make Washingtonian’s ‘Best of’ list but for me it was one of the most reliable spots for a reasonably priced meal. I’m devastated. I chatted with a waiter to confirm and as he did he noted that they were given barely any notice only being told themselves of the closing last Tuesday.

Since the restaurant was always busy I gotta think it was the relatively new bar (that was rarely filled) that Yanni’s opened a few years ago that was their downfall. Yanni’s Gyro Platter, I’m gonna pour some tzatsiki sauce out for you tonight. Well, we had some good times Yanni’s! I wish the staff the best of luck.

Thanks to a reader for sending in the early word this weekend. He noted that Yanni’s has been in DC for over 20 years. Yanni’s you’ll be missed.

The flyer says:

“Wonderfully renovated sunny top-floor 1 Br + den. Newly designed kitchen, stunning glass backsplash, custom maple cabinets, granite & new Bosch SS appl. Marble floored bathroom w/ custom vanity, mosaic backsplash & rainfall shower head. Gleaming Georgia pine wood floors with large foyer. Spacious master bedroom, double-size cedar-lined closets. Pet friendly building. Parking for 18 cars.”

You can find more info here and photos here.

That is a pretty cool backsplash! Though I’m guessing the parking for 18 cars is a typo? Note that a neighbor just went under contract for $364,000 and a studio on a lower floor is going for $199,000.

But for this unit do you think $384,900 is reasonable for this 1 bed+den/1bath?

It was very big news when the Post broke the story back in mid-June that Tackle Box was looking to open another location in the old McDonalds space at 3407 Connecticut Ave, NW. But I just noticed that an alcohol renewal permit had recently been pasted on the window under the name DC Diner. Anyone know if DC Diner has returned from the dead or if it’s simply easier to just renew a permit under the original name?

This was actually a GDoN porn post last year, pre-renovation. It sold for $1,100,000.

So what do you think of the renovations? It’s yours for $2,495,000.

I’ve been curious to see how this renovation turned out. The photos look pretty good. Do you think $1600 sounds reasonable for the “last studio in the building”?

What do you think of the reno in general?
