Thanks to all who wrote in that Sushi Para has opened up in the former Taco Bell/KFC space at 4221 Connecticut Ave, NW. They’ve also just applied for a liquor license. We’ll revisit for a proper judging after they’ve been open for a bit.

Last week I stopped in to check on the new sushi spot, Sushi Para, coming to 4221 Connecticut Ave, NW (in the former Taco Bell space.) The folks in the restaurant said they’d be opening up in a couple of weeks.

Dear PoPville,
I recently moved to the Van Ness are but its so different from the other parts of the city in terms of restaurant choices or nightlife which does not exist here period. My question to you or readers is where would you recommend in Van Ness not Cleveland Park to have a decent not overpriced sit down restaurant (Modern American).
This may be a bit too far north but I’d recommend Buck’s at 5031 Connecticut Ave NW. If you’re looking at Van Ness proper you may want to check out Acacia Bistro located at 4340 Connecticut Ave, NW.
Where would you guys recommend?

This is one of the cooler fire box conversions I’ve seen in a while. It’s near UDC in Van Ness.

On Friday, a reader spotted Mayor Gray in Van Ness at the grand opening of the Walgreens located at 4225 Connecticut Ave, NW. Guess it was a slow news day for everyone :)

Sushi Bar will be located next to the new Walgreens in the old Taco Bell/KFC space at 4221 Connecticut Ave, NW.

Dear PoP,
Any news on when the new Walgreens in Van Ness is due to open? The signs are up and it looks like it is very close to ready — and at least from the outside, it looks like it is going to be huge.
I stopped by 4225 Connecticut Ave, NW on Sat. and was told they’ll be opening up Dec. 23rd. And it is gigantic. I think the building turned out pretty well.

“Dear PoPville,
I’m wondering if anyone knows when the tennis courts at UDC were closed to the public. I’ve taken a long break from tennis but went to play at the courts at UDC, which in the past were open to the public, on Sunday. It was a beautiful day and all of the other courts around there were full. The courts at UDC were empty and the sign said they were reserved for UDC faculty, students, employees and a tennis team. But there was no one on them. It seems like kind of a waste for a beautiful Sunday afternoon.”
Anyone know if the UDC courts are permanently closed to the public? I know there are some relatively nearby courts at 32nd St NW & Brandywine St NW that you can check out as well.
