Yoga District is located at 1830 1st St., NW. In response to a query, Yoga District’s Jasmine writes,

“No we’re totally not closing- we’d never do that to the bloomie community – we love it there so much!!!!!!!!!! but the landlord hasn’t made major repairs he’s responsible for in the basement of the building. we’ve already been to court once and it’s painful and expensive to get him to act, and the lease unfortunately sticks us with his attorney fees regardless of outcome, so we’re either paying our AND his attorney to get him to make the repairs, or we can choose to avoid the legal process and just pay for the repairs ourselves- it’s probably all the same in terms of $. but rather than find thousands and thousands of dollars for either option, we’d love to move, ideally to a place owned by someone in the community or to a place that some of our friends in the community can buy together.”

I hope they find a great space but it’s a bit sad that they need to move because the purple building was looking good!

And in other Yoga news – as we’ve seen – the building at 13th and U St, NW has been renovated and on April 1st, Boundless Yoga will be open on the 2nd floor.

Back in early March we learned that:

Lost Society is a “boutique steakhouse, located on the second and third floors of this corner building, will feature a steak centric menu that blends market fresh produce, grass fed local meats, and regional seafood with innovative techniques to create both familiar classics and bold original dishes.

The space features full dining, bar and lounge space, as well as a rooftop deck.”

I’m happy to give a taste of what the space is gonna look like. The entire space including the outdoor area is around 5400 square feet. And let me just straight away that this roof deck is going to be absolutely amazing. And if all goes well, Lost Society hopes to open “sometime in April” and I’ll be sure to update with the menu and exact opening date when it is announced.

The second floor features a huge wrap around bar

The new clothing stores keep on coming to the U Street, NW area. Earlier in the week we learned about Match Clothing coming to 1526 U St, NW and now just east of 9th St, NW at 809 Florida Ave, NW we have Robin’s Nest coming soon. Stay tuned for more updates as opening dates are announced.

Do you like the mix of retail and restaurants hitting the U St/Florida Ave, NW corridor?

While home/office furnishings took a big hit on the 1500 block of U St, NW – clothing options are blowing up. At 1526 U St, NW I just a saw a coming soon sign for Match Clothing. You can see in the photo below they join the recently opened Rock it Again and Dr. K’s vintage not to mention Lettie Gooch located across the street at 1517 U St, NW and Junction location located at 1510 U St NW. Oh yeah, Ginger Root is also on the same block at 1530 U St, NW.

With that in mind it’ll be interesting to see who moves into the big space at 1515 U St, NW.

On Friday afternoon I started getting emails that something was going on at RCKNDY, located at 1515 U St, NW. Phone calls went unanswered at first then the line was disconnected and when I stopped by on Sat. I only saw this:

The store has been completely emptied. Their Website that is still live says:

We took a peek inside back in March ’08.

Were there any fans?

Obviously Ben’s Chili Bowl, located at 1213 U St, NW, is an institution and no longer a “regular” restaurant particularly after President Obama ate there. But, it amazes me that the lines (admittedly there have always been some lines as long as I can remember) have remained this big, regularly snaking outside around the building. So I’m curious what folks think – are there still big fans out there?

You can see their menus here. I’m embarrassed to admit I had no idea they had a breakfast menu.

For the fans what do you order?

Personally I’m a huge fan of the chili cheese fries but to be honest haven’t stopped in for one in many months. I think I know what I’m doing for lunch tomorrow…

From a press release:

Local 16 (1602 U St, NW) has announced weekend-long brunch, featuring items from their wood-burning oven.

Locals can enjoy staples such as French Toast made with Sour Dough and Fresh Maple Syrups or Eggs Benedict served with Proscuitto and Home Fries or venture out to try the Lox Scramble Pizza, a New York-style pie baked in a wood-burning oven and topped with marinara sauce, smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, and crème fraiche. Add a $3 Mimosa and your morning is complete! The full brunch is served both Saturday and Sunday, inside and on the roof-top patio from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Back in May ’10 we learned that the former space of Station 9 was for sale. More recently there has been a for lease sign out front advertising for a “retail/restaurant/office”. I happened to notice a couple of permits that have gone up which list proposed uses for offices and “2 family flat”. I wonder if they are also still looking for a restaurant or if all the space will be occupied by the flat and offices? I’ll be sure to update when more info becomes available.
