Three years ago, a group of Star Wars fans decided to remake Star Wars: A New Hope out of fan-generated scenes. Now, the Star Wars Uncut project has finally The U Street Movie Series Kick off Wednesday evening, June 19th with Star Wars Uncut at the come to fruition with a Director’s Cut, a two-hour+ YouTube video created entirely by crowdsourcing.

When fans were encouraged by organizer and fan Casey Pugh to recreate the Star Wars movie in 15-second segments, they were given free reign to do whatever they wanted. Out of the thousands of wildly creative scenes, video editor Aaron Valdez and sound designer and mixer Bryan Pugh picked the best of the bunch, putting together this whimsical Director’s Cut, a rip-roaring re-creation of the George Lucas film.

Movies for the balance of the series are:

July 17th – The Nine Lives of Marion Barry
August 21st – Summer Wars (anime)
September 18th – The Legend of Cool “Disco” Dan

Officer Marlon Morales succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained three days earlier when he confronted a fare evader leaving the U Street-Cardoza Metro station in Washington, DC.

During the confrontation, the suspect suddenly pulled out a handgun and shot Officer Morales in the face. Officer Morales never had a chance to draw his weapon. The suspect then stole Officer Morales’ service weapon and two spare magazines of ammunition and fled the scene. Officer Morales was transported to a local hospital here he remained in critical condition for three days before succumbing to his wound.

From a press release:

When battling the DC crowds, one might think there is something to the idea of exclusivity. There is also something to the idea of experience. Couple these and add a rooftop locale, signature décor including live grass walls, a very special menu of food and Absenthe cocktails and you have La Fée Verte—a private contemporary speakeasy style club within a club.

Located atop MOVA on 14th Street, guests wishing to experience La Fée Verte will have a private text number through which they can reserve the space at seatings either 8-10 pm, 10 pm-midnight or midnight -2 am every Wednesday through Saturday. Once on the very limited guest list, patrons will enter La Fée Verte by ascending through the curtained stairs of MOVA, where they will be transported to an emerald embodied world of live green grass walls; a forest of leafy plants, stylish cushy furniture, signature glass and serviceware and personal service.

La Fée Verte will offer an Absenthe cocktail based menu from which guests may make their selection of avariety of libations showcasing 6-8 different Absenthes in varying flavor profiles. A savory farm to table snack menu created by Chef Jerry Hollinger of The Daily Dish will be offered for those wishing to pair their cocktail with the appropriate small dish.

Reservations will be taken beginning July 1. It’s all enough to make anyone not in attendance green with envy.

La Fée Verte is located n the rooftop at MOVA.

Back in March we learned that a new Mediterranean restaurant, Dunya, was coming to 8th and Florida (just east of 9th and U St, NW). We knew there would be a summer garden but I didn’t realize a roof deck was also in the plans. A very happy surprise. Looks like it has potential:
