Nonna’s Kitchen (above Alphonse Italian Market & Osteria) website says:

“Nonna’s Kitchen was created to invite our guests to feel like they are stepping right into the rustic kitchen of an Italian Grandmother. The cuisine will represent the different regions of Italy through Chef-inspired tasting menus, complete with wine pairings and suggested classic cocktail selections. The menu will change monthly. Adding to the at-home experience the guest will be able to watch their food be artfully crafted inside Nonna’s kitchen, where they will be encouraged to ask questions and become educated about the ingredients.

Nonna Hours:

Friday – Saturday 5:00 – 11:00”

I’m told they will be “offering 20% off while until the November 25th”. More details from their full press release:

“Starting this Friday, the 7th of November, Compass Rose will begin serving late night khachapuris on Friday and Saturday nights. Our kitchen normally closes at 11:00 but will stay open until 2:00am for making what has become our signature dish, Georgian khachapuri. The demand for the bread, cheese and egg dish after hours kept coming so we decided to make it happen. The dish that the Washington Post has called, Butter Pizza, will be the only menu item available after 11:00pm for now and only on Fridays and Saturdays. Of course the bar is open until 3:00am on both weekend nights.

Speaking of the bar….. We are excited to announce that Jack Caminos has decided to come on board as our beverage director! Jack is a legend. A consummate barman. Formally of Blackjack and Brixton, Jack will be bartending at Compass Rose four nights a week. His new cocktail program will begin on Wednesday of next week (11/12/14).”

From an email:

“It is with great sadness that we announce that Vastu will be closing soon.
It has been a wonderful 11 1/2 years and we are very sorry to see it end. We simply couldn’t absorb the financial burden caused by increased costs and lowered revenue during last year’s short change in ownership.

During our time on 14th St, we have taken great pride and delight in being invited into your homes and lives, asked to help make them a little more comfortable and stylish, and we cherish the friendships we’ve made along the way. It has been an adventure watching the neighborhood go from a retail wasteland where we needed to bring lunch if we wanted to eat that day to one where there are seemingly endless options for all-day drunken brunches.

Our closing isn’t immediate and we will of course be delivering orders to those of you who still have them outstanding. (more…)

From 6-9 these four notables will (attempt to) concoct cocktails and pours with a portion of the night’s proceeds benefiting Martha’s Table. The full dinner menu and drink specials will also be available.”
