“Dear PoP,

I biked home a different way yesterday because traffic was a cluster and was happy to find that the brass knob warehouse is still open. I had stopped going after hearing that they closed, but they are still there and now it is easier to see stuff than ever. The doors are arranged so you can actually see them. There are also still a good number of windows, two really nice clawfoot tubs, and lots of radiators and locksets on site. There are mantels and other things that are photo catalogued and stored off site. He says he’ll be open for at least another month or so and he’s still going to be working on connecting people with the stuff they need.”

Sweet. Last we heard they had closed their doors on Feb. 15, 2011.

Brass Knob Warehouse is located at 57 N St, NW.

This rental is located at 1st and P St, NW:

“Dear PoP,

I walk past it on my way home and had been noticing small signs of change over the last several several months (new sign, new paint, a banner promising sandwiches, interior renovations, finally another new sign). Last night I went in and talked to the guy behind the cash register. He says they’re going to be selling Ethiopian food for carryout. I am very excited!

It also looks like they will continue to offer convenience store wares (chips, soft drinks, overpriced canned goods).”

“Dear PoP,

The Hot Trout Grill sign is now one reading Revive (8 Florida Ave., NW). Any idea what the business will be? My money’s on a coffee shop or yoga studio.”

I called Revive and confirming an earlier report, the voice mail says that you have reached “revive catering”. If they offer take out/eat in options I’ll be sure to follow up.

“Dear PoP,

On Saturday I witnessed a disturbing scene, at 1st and N NW, where I’ve been writing about the need for speed bumps, or a four way stop, more enforcement of the school zone, etc…

A woman in a motorized wheelchair crossing in the cross-walk (which is lined, and marked with a school zone sign and a fluorescent ped x-ing sign), was just struck by the black SUV pictured. The SUV was going fast, and hit the woman and her chair hard.

Cops and ambulances came. Luckily the crowds at Dunbar for a track meet called 9-11 quickly.
The woman was in what looked and sounded like excruciating pain. She said the hot pavement was burning her, but no one was allowed to move her until the paramedics arrived.

I just want the commenters on the earlier blog posts to recognize that no one is being dramatic here.
I don’t want something to be done because it’s convenient for my dog and I. I see near-accidents every day, involving 6 year-olds.

People seem to think there is no real risk, and certainly not one that warrants inconveniencing drivers to any extent.

Is this real enough for you? Will you still respond, “Oh Please, calm down,” now?
Tell that to the lady who just got rocked by the Cadillac going 40mph.

Let’s just keep saying, “1st isn’t a side street, roads were invented for cars, and I’ll honk at every speed bump in protest,” until next week, when another person gets injured.”

We previously spoke about this intersection here and here.

“Dear PoP,

Somewhere on the order of 15 emergency vehicles responded to a number of gunshots on the 100 block of Q St., NW. I saw two injured individuals put into ambulances. DC MPD’s alert says three suspects fled on foot north towards Florida Ave., NW. Photo is before the vast majority of police and fire arrived.

Kudos to DC police for responding within minutes of the shots being fired.”

MPD writes:

“Shooting tonight at 9:15 pm in the courtyard of 201 Q St NW. Three victims–an adult female, adult male, and juvenile male–all suffered non life-threatening injuries while in the courtyard at this address.

Three possible suspects last seen toward Florida Avenue NW on foot.”

Was anyone at Big Bear Cafe (1st and R St, NW) when this happened?
