I ran into Ray Natter who says he’s been a guerrilla gardening here for about 5 years now. A couple years ago NBC did a story on him after the National Park Service threatened to mow the flowers:

Things are moving along in preparation for the coming summer. Here is hoping that we are getting all the rain out of the way now!
Many of you have written about playing this year. I have done my best to keep track of the emails but Gmail sometimes has a mind of its own so feel free to get back in touch. Shows will be happening in July once again this year and as always on Mondays and Thursdays. Music is 7 to 9:30 PM but the park is open for folks to be present for the pre-show festivities which will include cleaning the park and loading gear; the perfect backdrop for your dining experience. “We are releasing students at 9:30 due to the power outage. School will resume on time tomorrow”

“DCPS reports that Woodrow Wilson High School 3950 Chesapeake Street NW and Deal Junior High School 4814 Fort Drive NW have closed for the day due to power outages.”
Blue Moo Frozen Yogurt opened up back in June 2012 in the same building as the recently closed Hudson Trail Outfitters.

“I wanted to keep you updated on our progress over the last month or two. So far we have raised about $35,000 of the $50,000 needed for American University to start a permanent endowment. Once we hit the $50,000 goal, AU will begin providing grants to student and faculty to research ways to make DC a healthier, cleaner, and safer place! These donations have been gathered from an array of family, friends, nonprofits, local and national businesses.
We have a third fundraiser planned at Tenley Bar and Grill on April 26th from 6-10pm [4611 41st Street, NW]. The Facebook event is here. Our goal is to raise a few thousand more dollars at this event and awareness about the fund. Fifteen dollar donation at the door gets the participant happy hour deals all night.”

Update from MPD:
“This morning, shortly after 9am, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded to reports of a stabbing in the 3900 block of Chesapeake Street, Northwest near Wilson High School.
A Wilson High School student was approached by a suspect who demanded the victim’s property as he exited his vehicle. After a brief verbal exchange, there was a struggle that ensued, and the juvenile male suffered a stab wound to his leg. The suspect fled to the adjacent neighborhood and remains at large. The student walked across the street to the school where he reported the incident. The victim has been transported to an area hospital and suffers non-life threatening injuries.
MPD arrived on-scene and canvassed the neighborhood and crime scene area. At this time, the investigation is ongoing.
The suspect is described to be an Asian or Hispanic male, in his 30’s, approximately 5’7” tall, 150 pounds, and wearing all dark clothing.

“Bread and Salt has signs on its front door saying it’s closed “for changes coming.” Same message on its website.
The restaurant is well-liked by some in the neighborhood, but it’s a huge space and seems mostly empty much of the time. It was ambitious to open such a large space for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Anyway, we shall see…”
