“This will be a lounge that will provide entertainment and American/Jamaican Food. The entertainment will be a jazz band, open mic, dancing and DJ. Total occupancy load is 50, Sidewalk Café seats 8, Summer Garden Café seats 6.”

Updates as construction progresses and they get closer to opening.

Celebrate Petworth Festival this Saturday

“A group of community organizers have come together in the Petworth neighborhood of Washington, D.C. to plan and execute a small festival celebration in the heart of the neighborhood. The Celebrate Petworth Festival will celebrate creativity, diversity, culture, people, and quality of life: the core components of what make Petworth a vibrant and wonderful place to live. Celebrate Petworth will be anchored around 4 main themes: Art, Music, Food and Healthy Living, and Kids/Family. The focus of the event is as described above, thus it will not be a large vending and sales opportunity. Celebrate Petworth will bring residents of Petworth together, not just for the day of the event, but through the creation of new opportunities for collaboration, partnership and engagement amongst residents, businesses, and non-profit organizations. The event is planned for Saturday, May 10, from 12 PM until 6 PM on the 800 block of Upshur St.

Reader Mugged inside Wendy’s at 1:30pm Saturday in Petworth

“Dear PoPville,

I got mugged yesterday [Saturday] at the Wendy’s on Georgia Ave at Randolph around 1:30 pm. I was with the police for two hours, who did virtually nothing but waste time and say things like “well he’s probably long gone by now.” They took everything. It was so frightening. They have my keys and my address from my license…so even if I could go home I’m too scared to return to CoHi/Petworth at all. Apparently the mugger ran down Georgia to the metro, got on the first train, and then tried to drain all of my credit cards in Capitol Heights, MD. I got this information from my bank, NOT the police.

I don’t know what telling you all this will do, but maybe it’ll encourage people to be more vigilant in that area.”

At this weeks PCM Community Canopy, Red Wiggler will have kid’s healthy eating and nutrition activities! Red Wiggler Community Farm is a non-profit organic vegetable farm in Germantown, MD providing food, education and employment for adults with developmental disabilities and youth.

Music
Harris Face is a folk-rock artist from Washington, DC. Percussive guitar, harmonica, and emotive rock dominate his music. Enjoy music from 11am-12pm!

To kick off our season PCM invites you to join us in a seed planting activity! Stop on by the market tent to make a paper pot and plant a seed to bring back to your own garden.
