From MPD around 11:30pm Mon. night:

“The Third District is working a shooting in the 700 block of Columbia Road NW.”

I’m told that there was

“a male suffering from a fatal gunshot…we have no identification on this male subject.. our homicide branch is investigating and we will need the public’s assistance on any information that they can forward to us”

If anyone has any info at all please contact the Metropolitan Police Department on 202-727-9099 or 888919CRIME or text at 50411.

“Dear PoP,

Not sure if you’ve posted about this already, but they’re making progress on phase one of the Park Morton project (“The Avenue” at Georgia and Newton). They’ve torn down the old car wash and vacant building.”

We mentioned this project in the beginning of Feb. ’11 and you can see photos before the demo here. Wild.

Below is a rendering of the 83 unit apartment project by Landex:

Earlier in the night DC Alerts also reported:

“DCRSAN 5D IS WORKING A SHOOTING AT MOUNT OLIVET AND MONTELLO AVE NE @ 1915HRS.”

This is from a block south of the Petworth metro at 3653 Georgia Ave, NW. It used to be the Hair Plus & Gift Shop.

I was hoping that there would be a better indication of what might be coming soon but I guess we’ll just have to stay tuned…

Any guesses?

I have to admit that I was a little surprised that the Good Deal or Not (GDoN) commenters did not go all ballistic on the list price. On the contrary, marybindc started the comments with the question, “It looks like a fabulous deal, why is it so cheap? Bad block?” A little Park View bashing ensued, however, many did see value in this spacious renovated property within blocks of Metro that ultimately sold very close to the list price.

My surprise did not come from thinking bad thoughts about Park View. I tend to think of this neighborhood as a great place to bring buyers who need something affordable and are looking for an urban setting and easy access to downtown. One of the challenges of this neighborhood is that it suffers from, shall we say, a lack of strong branding. Real estate agents tend to call it Columbia Heights because it actually does fall into the legal subdivision of CH. Residents probably call it Park View. If I have to describe it to somebody, I’ll tell them “south of Petworth, east of Columbia Heights”.

Continues after the jump. (more…)

“Dear PoP,

What’s up with GII Lounge at Georgia and Fairmont St, NW? It has been dark for several weeks.

It is one of the few sit-down restaurants on lower GA Ave and my boyfriend and I enjoyed going there on occasion. I think we still even have our receipt where they listed our tab as “White Couple.” They seemed to do well business wise, but what do your sources tell you??”

GII Lounge, located at 2632 Georgia Ave NW, opened up back in Aug. ’09 (even though their Web site, warning very loud, still says coming soon.) The phone number I had is now disconnected and when I stopped by on Sat. it was closed. Anyone know if they are permanently closed?
