Never has a photo better captured the contradictions on Georgia Ave today.

A reader reports around 5:30 Sunday afternoon:

“someone just got stabbed or something in Giant Liquors. I also just heard it may have been the manager. I’m thinking attempted (or successful) robbery?”

Ed. Note: I saw MPD confirmed the stabbing but I have not yet seen any other details regarding the circumstances.

“Dear PoPville,

The new Whitney Row condos on Newton Pl NW in Park View turned out really well (you posted about the finished building a while ago). They completely razed 3 old row houses to build it from the ground up. So imagine my surprise and confusion when I saw the sign they recently added: “circa 1910, restored and developed 2015.” They couldn’t be more misleading if they tried!”

From MPD:

“Early this morning on todays date, a male was stabbed in the 3000 block of Georgia Ave. NW. The victim was transported to a local area hospital for a non life threatening injury. Anyone with information in reference to this incident is urged to contact the Third District Detective’s office on 202-673-6918.”

“Dear PoPville,

I have lived in the Park View for 4 years and really like the convenience of the area. However, the bus stop at the corner of Georgia ave. and Lamont st. has always been a hub for loitering, open container drinking, and other suspect activities. In recent weeks, there has been an exponential increase in the amount of people congregating around the bus stop, liquor store, Eddie Leonard’s Carry Out and and further down by the ALSCO building. At one point, there were at least 20 men loitering and drinking from open containers in this general area, with some obstructing the entrance to the apartment building located at 3318 Georgia Avenue NW, and others obstructing the entrance to the condominiums located on Lamont Street. Just last week, a concerned citizen informed me that they witnessed several cars dropping off men with no clear intent or purpose other than to loiter on the corner.

In addition to the loitering, there is a vacant house located directly accross the street from Eddie Leonard that I have been told is a known drug house. I have seen young men hanging around the steps of the house “interacting” with who I perceive to be as drug addicts. I have also been told that Eddie Leonard is cashing food stamps and other social benefits so these indivudals can go accross the street and purchase their drugs from the drug house.

All of this has to stop. I know that sounds naive, but I really want to call Park View residents to action or any DC resident that wants to help rid crime from our neighborhood. We can get special attention to the area by calling 911 to report loitering or whatever you deem to be suspious behavior. While I understand loitering is not a crime in DC, I am sure that the crimes occuring in this area are causing the loitering.

Please contact MPDC:
● 3rd District Commander Jacob Kishter at [email protected] / (202) 6736820
● 3rd District Captain Burt Henry at [email protected] / (202) 4092027/ (202) 6716777
● 3rd District (PSA 302) Lieutenant Mark Hodge at [email protected] (202) 4898338 / (202)

You can also go to 3rd District headquaters on 1624 V St NW
Washington, DC 20009 and fill out a special attention form with the Vice Unit.

In addition to the police, you can also email our council member Brianne Nadeau at [email protected] and ANC rep., Bobby Holmes, at [email protected]. My hope is that with community attention, we can address this issue.”

A reader reports (confirmed by @DCPoliceDept):

“Walked out of my condo building on Lamont Street NW between Sherman and Georgia to see emergency responders assisting an individual on a stretcher. The MPD reports that this was a stabbing incident. Sad to say there has been notable uptick in police activity on Lamont over the last 12 months.”

Thanks to a reader for sending:

“Looks like there is some activity at the long vacant storefront at 3100 Georgia Ave in Park View (north west corner of Irving and Georgia).

The proposed use says: ‘Deli, Coffee shop’, but based on the description of the work to be undertaken, it looks like it will be yet another convenience store. I was also unaware that this was ever a jewelry store.

With the new very temporary looking ‘convenience store’ on the NE corner and the 77 market on the SE corner we will now have all but one corner of this intersection taken up by some form of convenience store. Luckily, the remaining corner is a park, so I don’t think we can get a full house.”
