“Dear PoPville,

Around 5:50pm Sunday night, a 12-14 yr old kid grabbed my wife’s butt while we got off the metro at Waterfront station (train was headed southbound, we were in the last car). I confronted the group – 4 kids total – and stated that they were most likely on video (hopefully this is true) and that I was calling the police. In response, one of them told me that he was going to “blast” me. Long story short, I followed them and gave a description to the 911 operator – props to Metro Transit PD and MPD for a very quick response. Of course, some idiot who had nothing to do with it was chirping at me to “stop snitchin.”

“Another Consequence of Snowy Sidewalks”

“Dear PoPville,

The past two days walking home from the metro at around 5 I have encountered more than a dozen drunk men hanging around my neighborhood. It was a little unnerving yesterday to hear them aggressively yelling at each other (on the verge of blows) but I kept my head down and tried to avoid them as best I could. If it weren’t for their age I would have thought I had stumbled upon a tail gate or something, the atmosphere was so similar.

Fortunately, the sidewalks in my neighborhood are mostly clear (there’s a few piles that have caved in from the side of the road) but unfortunately the cleared area is small and only wide enough for one person at a time. Tonight, a man saw me coming and jumped over the snow bank in front of me and asked for money (not a theft, just begging) and when I said no he got aggressive and touching my arm saying “please, please just a few bucks for the store…” He didn’t move aside or stop when I asked, so I had to step into the ice covered snow to get around him and almost fell. Normally I take advantage of the full width of the sidewalk, but with the snow I couldn’t do that. My purpose in sending is just to remind everyone to be aware of your surroundings, and to keep your eyes open for one another. Also, shovel your damn sidewalks more than just one shovel length in width!”

“Metro to install 50th new escalator; project starts tonight”

“Tonight, Metro and its escalator contractor KONE will begin a project to install the system’s 50th new escalator since 2011, Metro General Manager/CEO Paul J. Wiedefeld announced today. Over a two-year period, the project will replace the three entrance escalators at Waterfront Station in Southwest, DC.

In the past five years, Metro has installed 37 new escalators at the following stations: Bethesda, Branch Avenue, Brookland, Columbia Heights, Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom, Friendship Heights, Georgia Ave-Petworth, Glenmont, Metro Center, Mt. Vernon Square, Pentagon, Van Ness and Woodley Park.

In addition, projects are currently underway to replace an additional 12 escalators.

Metro owns and maintains 618 escalators in its stations and parking garages, including the longest escalators in the Western Hemisphere at Wheaton Station.

The investments in replacing or rebuilding Metro’s escalators has yielded positive results for customers. In 2015, Metro’s escalator availability rate reached 93.3 percent, the best annual performance in five years.

The work at Waterfront Station will begin Monday night after the station closes. Each escalator is expected to take 35 weeks to replace, including site preparation, demolition, construction, installation and testing. For safety reasons, most of the work will be done during overnight hours.

Waterfront Station’s entrance will remain open to customers during the project with one escalator running up and one running down.”

Shooting Homicide in SW Waterfront Saturday Night

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at approximately 9:50 pm.

First District members were on patrol in the area when they heard a gunshot. While investigating, they located an adult male unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in the 1300 block of First Street, Southwest. DC Fire and EMS transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 20-year-old Kwaza K. Blue of Southwest, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at (202) 727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.”

“The Waterfront metro has had two of its six gates out of service for well over a month, with no sign of repairs any time soon.

One gate broke months ago. The other followed about a month ago. Of the working 4 gates, one is a very very slow handicapped gate. So in rush hour, most commuters have to line up to use the one standard working gate.

Does WMATA have any plan to fix the broken gates? Or is this just the new normal for Waterfront?”

“650 square foot studio in SW Waterfront
Granite countertop
Kitchen is nice with ceramic flooring but the appliances aren’t fancy
Carpet in the living space, with ceramic tile in the kitchen, foyer, and bathroom
2 closets with one being a walk in
Pet-friendly
10 minute walk or less to three different metro stations (you could walk to Waterfront in about 2-4 minutes)
Safeway, CVS, Dry Cleaners, Z-Burger, Station 4, Indian restaurant all w/in a 3-4 minute walk
Mile walk to Nats Park, Arena Stage is nearby, 2 blocks away from the Wharf
No parking space

Realtor seems to think that based on comps, I could only get up to $1750. Initially wanted to sell, then I looked into renting and when I saw the estimates, rethinking that I should sell for around 300K (this is just a guess of mine).
