Trinity Hosts NSO Concert in Notre Dame Chapel This Sunday

“Trinity Hosts NSO Concert in Notre Dame Chapel This Sunday

Have you ever wondered what the inside of Trinity Washington University’s Notre Dame Chapel looks like? It’s very beautiful – one of the hidden gems of Washington – and you have a chance to check it out this Sunday, January 11, 2015, when Trinity hosts a brass concert featuring ensembles from the National Symphony Orchestra and the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. The free concert begins at 2:00 pm, and the doors open at 1:30 pm, giving you a chance to see the beautiful stained glass windows, mosaic and Guastavino tiles

The concert is part of the National Symphony Orchestra’s “2015 NSO In Your Neighborhood”, a week-long series of concerts in a variety of venues from Brookland to NoMa. NSO musicians David Murray, trombone; Matthew Guilford, bass trombone; and Stephen Dumaine, tuba; will perform a chamber concert with guest trombonist Peter Ellefson. The concert will include a collaboration with a brass group from the Duke Ellington School of the Arts.

This concert is free and open to the public and families are welcome. No tickets or reservations are needed.

Trinity is located at 125 Michigan Avenue, NE. Trinity offers free parking on campus and a free shuttle to and from the Brookland Metro stop on the Red line. There is a Metro bus stop in front of the campus, near Notre Dame Chapel, that is served by several Metro bus routes. There is also free street parking along Michigan Avenue right in front of Trinity’s campus and Notre Dame Chapel.”

Chocolate City Beer Closing Dec. 31st – ‘Dew Drop Inn’ not sure what will become of the space

Well I wasn’t expecting to hear this today! I spoke with the folks opening the tavern Dew Drop Inn coming to the upstairs space and they say it is unknown what will become of that space. It will be decided in the coming month or so – stay tuned on that front. Thanks to all who emailed – from Chocolate City Beer:

“After three and a half years in business, Chocolate City Beer will be closing its doors and turning off the lights on December 31st 2014. We want to give a heartfelt THANK YOU!!! to all our supporters, friends and family, to our neighbors in Brookland, Edgewood and to the greater DC/DMV region. It was our pleasure to be a part of the local craft beer renaissance since 2011.
We will remain open for our regular Growler Hours both Saturdays December, 20th and 27th, as well as a couple TBA weekday nights approaching New Years Eve.

Our latest and sadly, last brew is in the tank, a New Brew: a heavily hopped Black IPA named GoodBye.P.A.- w/ Citra and Galaxy Hops and a strong roasted malt backbone.

Be sure to swing by, say farewell, pick up some Growlers of the last Cornerstone Copper Ale, Cerveza Nacional Black Lager and our swan song GoodBye.P.A.”

Epic Edgewood/Brookland News: ‘Dew Drop Inn’ Tavern from owners of Wonderland Coming to space above Chocolate City Brewery

Such an incredibly cool space begging for a bar. I’m very psyched to share this news from the owners of Wonderland (11th and Kenyon St, NW):

“Dew Drop Inn will have an American deli menu: sandwiches, soups, salads, bbq. And drinks. And a deck for trainspotting.”

If all goes well they plan on opening above Chocolate City Brewery (near the new Mess Hall) in late Spring/early Summer. Knock wood, knock wood! Stay tuned for tons of updates on this place because I’m beyond excited about the prospect.

Juvenile Male Arrested in early afternoon Homicide Last Month at 3rd and Adams Streets, NE

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announced an arrest has been made in the homicide of 18-year-old Johnie Lee Resper of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, which occurred Wednesday, October 1, 2014 near the intersection of 3rd and Adams Streets, Northeast.

On Wednesday, November 12, 2014, members from the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested a juvenile male charging him with Second Degree Murder While Armed in the shooting death of Johnie Lee Resper.”

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide which occurred near the intersection of 3rd and Adams Streets, NE.

On Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at approximately 3:04 pm, members of the Fifth District responded to a call for shooting. Upon arrival, they located the victim, 18-year-old Johnie Lee Resper of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, in the 200 block of Adams Street, NE suffering from gunshot wounds.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at (202) 727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.”
