A reader sends the photo above around 7:30pm Sunday and writes:

“Heard 7 shots a block away from my house an hour ago. This is the crime scene at 7th and N. Saw 7 pieces of police tape on the ground – probably marking the bullet casings. They just wheeled an older man out on a stretcher and into the ambulance.”

On the Mt. Vernon Square Listserv a resident wrote about a different incident around 2:30pm:

“Anyone know anything about the shooting this afternoon north of N St. On 5th? I heard what sounded like semi-automatic fire, or lots of handgun rounds. Police have it taped off at 5th and evidence markers everywhere.”

1318 9th St, NW

Wow, awesome news from EastShawDC:

“Tom Power, owner of Corduroy restaurant at 1122 9th Street, NW, has entered into an agreement to purchase the building that houses Mood Lounge. The agreement is contingent on Power receiving financing, and the agreement may be terminated if the closing doesn’t occur before March 31, 2012.”

We judged Corduroy back in Jan. 2009. You can see their menu here. Great news for Shaw if this goes through.

Dear PoPville,

I’ve always been fascinated with the science and precision behind moving houses. Sending you a few pics of the triangle between New York Ave and K Street, NW. This small building is off its foundation and ready to go.

The old Victorian house (photo below) is stabilized for the move, but hasn’t gone anywhere yet. It’s my understanding that all of these historic structures will be aligned next to one another somewhere on the block to make room for the new Medical School Association building. Is this correct?

For those not familiar with the project, WBJ reported:

“The Association of American Medical Colleges has selected Douglas Development Corp.’s site overlooking Mount Vernon Square for its new headquarters. It plans to occupy the property by the fourth quarter of 2013.”

No doubt this is gonna be another amazing transformation. Glad to see they are saving these great old houses too. We’ll revisit as construction progresses.

Yesterday we learned that the Shakti Yoga space was coming up for lease at 1302 9th St, NW. It seems that is not the only space coming up for lease on the 1300 block of 9th St, NW. The Lamont Bishop Gallery space at 1314 9th St, NW is also coming up for lease. They have a new exhibition launching March 7th so it’s not clear when the space will be vacated. The landlord commented yesterday:

“They are 6 months in arrears in rent etc. and an eviction is forthcoming.”

1314 9th St, NW is located in front of Sundevich and next to Seasonal Pantry.

Back in June 2011 we learned that a new cafe and wine bar called TEL’VEH was coming to 401 Massachusetts Ave NW:

“New Tavern. European Café with wine bar. Breakfast and lunch with bakery. Small plates during dinner and wine bar, no dancing. Seating capacity is 75. Summer Garden capacity is 40. Total Occupancy Load is 115.”

I was starting to get nervous but I recently spotted some good news – looks like they’re starting to get some bones:

Dear PoPville,

For months now, I’ve walked past the corner of 7th and New York, across 7th from the Convention Center, and wondered what is going in there. It looks like a pretty hefty renovation, with most of the building covered by tarp. Now, part of it is uncovered, but still no clues as to what it will eventually be.

It’s always been a place that I’d love to see developed, as the building and location have so much potential. Now I’m just growing impatient!

This is going to be more LivingSocial office space. Thanks to all who tweeted/emailed that much of the scaffolding has been removed. LivingSocial def. knows how to pick cool buildings. Here are a couple of shots I took yesterday from 7th Street looking east:
