We first heard about the Carving Room Kitchen back in Feb. 2012. Lots of folks have been asking about their progress – we’ve finally got a sign of life:
This is the spot that will serve “house cured and hand carved sandwiches”. It will be located next to Wiseguy NY Pizza at 4th and H Street, NW. Incidentally, looks like Wiseguy will also have Gimme! coffee:

A couple of weeks ago I wondered about the logo of the new pizza spot coming to Mt. Vernon Square. They’ve changed their NY logo and now when you look in the window you see this:

4th and H St, NW
I know when this sculpture first went up in Nov. 2009 folks were pretty critical. But I gotta say – it’s grown on me a lot. I think it adds some nice color to the neighborhood. Has it grown on anyone else?
1017 7th Street, NW
A liquor license application has been posted at 1017 7th St, NW in the former Ruppert’s Restaurant space next to Bicycle Space and nearby the Passenger. It says Temporary Works will be a:
“Restaurant serving all types of cuisine, alcoholic beverages with a seating capacity of 65and total occupancy load of 65.”
I spoke with one of the partners, Paul Ruppert, who explained that it will actually be a a restaurant accelerator and project space. It’s a bit similar to a pop up restaurant space except hopefully if the restaurant idea is successful here it will find a permanent home somewhere else in the city. Looking forward to seeing who the first resident will be. Stay tuned.
3011 M Street, NW
Thanks to another reader who spotted this sign announcing Fino Italian Restaurant’s closure in Georgetown and move to 1230 9th St, NW. The sign says they hope to open the new location by the New Year.

1316 9th Street, NW
A couple of weeks ago we learned about a new restaurant coming to 1316 9th St, NW near the convention center and Seasonal Pantry. They’ve applied for a liquor license under the name Thally and it says:
“New Restaurant. A modern, energetic bistro serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Background music will be provided. Sidewalk Cafe with 10 seats. Occupancy Load of 99.”

617 New York Avenue, NW
Marrakesh Restaurant has been located at 617 New York Avenue, NW since 1982. In late August we learned Marrakesh’s Dupont location had become La Kazbah at 2147 P Street, NW.
From Rasmus Auctioneers:
“The famous Marrakesh Morrocan restaurant has closed and will make a complete liquidation of all its 2 bars, substantial night club assets, kitchen and exotic decorative accents.”
We judged Marrakesh back in 2009.

Last we heard Wiseguy NY Pizza was looking for pizza snobs to judge their New York style pizza coming to Mt. Vernon Square. No word on an exact opening date yet but a peek in the window reveals that it should be any day now:
Looks like they did an awesome job on the buildout but do you think the Yankees logo and memorabilia is a good idea for a city with a healthy dose of Nats fever? Or does it not matter as long as the pizza is delicious?
