Unless plans have changed drastically we’ll have to assume there was an error in “nature of operation” listed on the liquor license placard:
“Assisted living, nursing and apartment facility with a café room serving cocktails, beer and wine to dining residents. Entertainment will include occasional parties that may have some live music. Total Occupancy Load of 325. 240 total seats. Summer Garden with 40 seats.”
Suns Cinema reached their kickstarter goal back in March. Hopefully movies aren’t too far behind. Or maybe the coolest assisted living facility in the District…

“My dog went missing 5/19 on 17th and Kilbourne in Mt. Pleasant early morning. Her name is Coco and she is a shitzu/poodle with a green tattoo on her stomach. Please call Michelle at 202-810-4103 if found.”

A reader tweets us:
“10-15 cars had tires slashed last night in Mount Pleasant. Behind 3000 block of Mt. Pleasant St. and on that block of street itself. My alley is full of tow trucks.”

A new cafe is coming to Mount Pleasant to the former Last Exit space underneath Radius. The cafe, to be called Habit, comes from the owners of the newly opened American–Filipino restaurant, Purple Patch, next door. I’m told that there will be coffee and pastries but other details are still being worked out. Sounds like it could be a little friendly competition for Flying Fish. Stay tuned.

Intruder in my backyard w/ Munchies (Mother’s Day Edition):
“These guys waited to the very last moment to look for their mother’s day gift!
If you haven’t read my 2 prior posts; this is the third intrusion attempt in the last 30 days. All of these attempts are in my backyard which is accessible from the North 1800 Newton ST NW alley. This recent attempt happened 2:47am this morning. What you can’t see is that I planted a junk bike right in front of my backyard camera. The bike I planted was left by the thief who stole our Jamis bike back in June 2014, you can find that post below as well.
These guys don’t look entirely prepared as their are finishing their late night snack. It’s also hard to tell if they leave because they notice the camera, or because the bike is a not worth stealing. What I can tell is that this is NOT the same guy that came by twice already. You can also tell that their hopping the fence leaves me pretty vulnerable (not that there is anything in my backyard with value).
Aside from a taller fence or white house fence spikes, are we all just sitting ducks? What can we do to prevent this activity?
I’m forwarding this to the police for their database of people to look out for.

Security Camera Footage of Alleged bike and package thief in Mount Pleasant
A reader reports:
“I live in the Argyle at Mt. Pleasant and Park Road and a few days ago (4/29) a dude stole some bikes and packages from our basement. He got in once by dialing up random numbers on the call box and the other time when he followed someone that was coming in. Apparently he’s on camera across the street at the Park Ridge recently stealing packages as well.
Someone in the building did see him after we circulated the photos, so he seems to be a local or at least spends significant time in the neighborhood.
Obviously I don’t expect any return on the stolen items but if people keep an eye out, maybe they can prevent their own stuff from being snatched by him, since he’s making a habit of it.”

Mount Pleasant repping well this month.
Thanks to a reader for sending in:
“This male pileated woodpecker and his mate demolished my suet feeder a few times this spring. Yes, he’s about 12-15 inches long. Absolutely huge. In Mt Pleasant, near Rock Creek Park.”
If you have any sightings please email [email protected] or tweet to @PoPville

A reader reports:
“6 ft deep sinkhole on 19th in Mt P. Between Kilbourne and Lamont. Appeared over night. Water service off on 19th st. It’s a deep hole!”
Another reader tweets us:
“Water main break on 19th at Lamont in Mount Pleasant. No running water in nearby homes – understandably. @PoPville”

Intruder in my backyard (1800 Newton NW Block) on 4/11/2015
“I discovered an intruder was casing my backyard at 3:03AM Saturday morning. I was informed that my neighbor 4 houses down had an intruder in their backyard Monday morning. I have video surveillance, and below are videos from Saturday. I have other videos from Monday as well that may help with my neighbor’s case.
I contacted the police via 911, and they were quick to dismiss the case as nothing was stolen or broken in to. Never-the-less I pressed and they sent an officer that looked at the wrong yard, and never came to my door.
Please email this thread if you also had an intrusion, seen a suspicious person, or have images/video from the 1800 block Engleside/Newton alley.
Hopefully posting here can at least make the neighborhood aware of this problem, and help stop these intrusions.
