Filming at 18th and Lamont Streets, NW
Thanks to a Mt. P reader for sending the heads up:
“It is for a four part documentary on energy. The first should air around July 3rd. They aren’t sure of the title yet but something about energy or power or future. Probably a combination of the three words. It’s hosted by the guy in red behind the white car named Sanjin. They will have a part about the MtP solar co-op.

And just last week I noted how good the Mt. Pleasant temporary library was looking at 3162 Mt. Pleasant Street, NW. Sadly there was an SUV crash in the alley Tues. afternoon and the library has been closed until the structural damage has been assessed. DC Public Library Spokesman George Williams will let me know when the library is able to re-open.

We learned that the Mt. Pleasant library has closed for extensive renovations and that a temporary library would open up on Mt. Pleasant Street for approximately 17 months. As you can see it is located at 3162 Mt. Pleasant Street, NW near the 7-11. When I stopped by yesterday it had a nice open layout with multiple computer stations. The computer stations, around a dozen or so, not seen in the photo below were already nearly full. I think for a temp library this one looks pretty good.

This apartment is located at 1610 Park Road, NW:
The Craigslist ad says:
“Exceptional Value!! Two blocks from the Columbia Heights Metro, Metro Bus at your door. The Parkhill Apartments is located in a dynamic and culturally diverse neighborhood. Adams Morgan – Columbia Heights – Mount Pleasant —–Looking for a great apartment? Nightlife a block away and convenient shopping.
Renovated One bedrooms, and studios brand new full kitchen – refinished bathrooms, large walk in closets and a minimal fee for air condition.”
Hmm, from looking at the photos it is not clear what exactly was renovated… But the location is pretty great. Does $1345 for the one bedroom and/or $1185 per month for the studio sound reasonable?

“Dear PoP,
Last night we were robbed again! Between the hours of 2am – 5am. The thief ripped out a window screen on a back porch and jiggled open an old window that did not have a lock on it (as of this afternoon it does). Our house has an alarm but we do not normally activate it while we are all home. Thankfully the thief only stole a couple of small electronics that were within eye sight and reach.”
and
“Dear PoP,
My roommate was cooking in the kitchen in the back of the house and heard a noise upstairs from her bedroom, which is directly above the kitchen. She didn’t think anything of it and went back to cooking. A little bit later she went to her room and noticed her window (no bars on the window) was open. She then walked down the hallway to talk to another roommate and ask if the landlord was putting our window units in. When she said “No” she walked back to her room and saw someone on the back porch running away. (She has a small porch off her room on the second level, so the person had climbed up to the second floor porch, probably using the neighbors porch which is slightly higher than our back porch, opened the window and then who knows what transpired between the time he opened the window and she saw him). A short chase ensued with the help of a neighbor, but the guy ended up grabbing a bike that he had left on the corner and riding away. The cops were called, and they had seen the bike and were actually in the area looking for someone suspicious.”
Both of these incidents took place in Mt. Pleasant so remember to lock your windows.

Well this nominee doesn’t get me as agitated as the burned out apt. building at 3145 Mt. Pleasant Road, NW but it’s still disappointing. The house on the right is an iconic Mt. Pleasant row house. You know the one with all the tricycles on Park Road, NW. Well the one on the left has been boarded up for what seems like years. I think it’s time to renovate or sell, right? I’m seriously curious about what you guys think about this one? Do you think it’s ok for the owner to keep it a boarded up shell as long as they pay vacant property taxes? Though serious taxes only come when a property is deemed blighted.

Thanks again to the reader who sent in these great garage doors from Mt. Pleasant. She even found some cool art inside one as well:

“Dear PoP,
Mount Pleasant is celebrating the season with this “progressive party” where visitors can go from business to business on Mount Pleasant Street, NW, and take advantage of great offers at local shops and restaurants. We’d greatly appreciate it if you could share this event with your readers. More info here.
As you know, Mount Pleasant Street is close to Columbia Heights Metro, on the S and H bus lines and it’s the start/end of the 42 bus.
We look forward to seeing all of our neighbors there!”

Sticking with the House Porn theme, this rental is located at 1841 Park Road, NW:
The Craigslist ad says:
